Seems to be a problem with MS28's only, and even then it's not banning from XBL, it's just not allowing the console to boot. Flashing the drive back to original firmware allows it to boot, and apparently latest hacked Sammy firmware works fine.

I'm only going by what's on the X-S thread, so please don't flame/blame me if I'm wrong Smile

ok..its not an isolated problem down to hacked firmware. The reason for this is microsoft CANNOT do a low level scan of the firmware and from what i got told a coupla hours ago the xbox360 cannot phisically dump the firmware either to check it. It comes down to a design thing and the xbox 360 is not designed at a hardware level to read/write from the firmware the firmware only authenticates the disk etc etc through very specific commands. Hitatchi users are reporting the E66, non modified users are reporting the E66, it just seems more prevelant on the ms28 revision. Its more likley to be some kind of conflict at a software level.

do you really believe microsoft would release an xbox360 update to millions of people when it kills unmodified 360s?

I have actually heard quite different. I have read that the makers of the firmware modifications know that it can be easily detected, and its really only a matter of time. I have also read that users with modded firmwares that reported the E66 error have been able to fix it by flashing the original firmware back on the dirve. But this is just info i have gained from reading forums, so who knows.

The update adds new none live features.. so its worth getting. No permanent problems seem to have been caused by the update either, so no bans or totally bricked boxes yet Smile

They might integrate it into newer games, although i'm not sure how likely that is.

If it actually is a form of protection against firmware hacks im almost positive it will be in new games.

Hitachi 32CE are also effected with E66, These drives are the oldest. Normally used in the Koisk 360's or maybe some very early xbox360's.

Hmm, can you find out what version of the dirve you have without opening the box up again?
I have a Hitachi, but no idea on revision/model.
