The game can be made more difficult and the competitors can also be made tougher if you edit the XML files in your "Install Directory\Assets\XML" folder. Once there, edit "RRT_Difficulty.xml" and "RRT_Characters.xml" to make the game more of a challenge.
In the "RRT_Difficulty.xml" file, there is one difficulty which is not shown while playing the game and that is called "Insane (Testers Only)". Remove line 138, <Debug>true</Debug>, and that Insane level will now be selectable in the game. Tweak the modifiers to suit your taste.
In the "RRT_Characters.xml" file, each character is rated on 4 skills: Building, Finances, Operations and Robber (Robber Baron-ing). Most of the characters by default are idiots. The best one is "Sidney Bruce" who is rated all "4" (possibly the highest setting), but he does not appear in any scenario. Edit the others to all 4's or maybe make one of them all "5" to see how tough the competition get.
Unfortunately, I can't give you my results because my 1.53 GHz, Radeon 8500, 1 GB RAM, is only capable of handling 1 train between two stations before the frame rate drops to near 0. Hopefully, some of you guys can let me know how the above tweaks work out.

My trains refuse to load cargo, the second time i run the game (and 3th, 4th etc.) the game worked fine the first time. Anyone else having this problem??, i think it is the copy protection (using the reloaded crack) since the game worked the first time i played it.
edit: more people are having this, so the reloaded version doesnt work and should be nuked.

I doubt its something to do with the crack, more like bugs in the game.

People with retail versions are encountering the same problems. It is to be fixed with an upcoming patch.

I agree with most of the previous posts this is to simplified.
But I also got the urge to play the best transport/sim game rleased Transport Giant and I recommend those of you that hasnt tried that to do...
Heres some features of that game.
And the graphics in TG is by far better than those in TTD.
Simulation of a complex but easy-to-grasp transportation cycle,
State-of-the-art iso graphics,
Set-up of transport routes complete with infrastructure,
Carriage of goods and passengers,
Two different scenarios (Europe and USA),
Ingenious signalling and guidance system for trains,
Bridges and tunnels,
Freely selectable company colour scheme for all vehicles,
Company colours modelled on real-life railway companies,
Over 130 vehicles (trains, monorails, superconductor trains, lorries, ships, aeroplanes and helicopters),
Extremely long trains of up to 64 wagons,
First appearance of a multiple traction option (i.e., more than one locomotive per train),
Stations can be expanded at will,
Over 60 different products and industries,
Over 500 different buildings,
Several campaigns for Europe and the USA,
Ramified missions, embedded in a developing storyline,
Numerous endless maps for Europe/USA,
Realistic country scenarios,
Changing seasons,
Changing economic situations,
Special missions and special events,
Adjustable difficulty levels,
Intuitive and well-tried interface

Transport Giant was a good game actually. It was buggy as hell, but was quite fun.
Shame it won't run on my PC anymore.

That was the very first thing I deactivated after starting the game for the first time, but it still crashed most of the time

Not that I'm aware of. I'll point to this next time someone wants to go on about how much better cracks are over a properly working clone.

Doubtful if we didn't get the last one cracked. I'm glad someone didn't release a clone and released a far superior crack.
