You are wrong, as you forget the first rule of PnP RPG: You are only limited by your own imagination. If you can't see past the rules, fine. I only use the rules as tools to shape my game. For that, DnD is an excellent toolbox. |
I dont fully agree. I know what you mean about the tool part - but 99% of the creatures in their "monster manual" has crappy background and their behaviour is abit like "attacks at sight"'
|
Again you stick to what is written in a book. The background is - again - just a guideline for the DM, and the behavior is based on the DM as well. I just don't get it: You look at a book, and tell me it is a boring game, because the book says Orcs attack you on sight.
I would like to stress again, that the best part of playing PnP RPG is that we are not bound by the rules. I can make an orc nation if i want, where everyone is fairly friendly unless you piss them off ofc, but hey.. a pissed off human and orc arent that different.
They provide the tools in the form of books. Give some tips, provide ideas and rules you can use in various circumstances. It is the DMs task to take these tools, and make an enjoyable game with them.
Once you start to look past the text and start to use the game how it was intended to use, it'll get a lot less restricting or boring. If you are the kind unable to break out of the box, if you can't ignore the rules, if they are written in a book for you, then i agree.. DnD quickly gets dull and boring.

What about multiplayer? High expectations? What kind of server? Roleplay, tavern, pvp, etc?
I'll go for a strict roleplay server

im currently playing a half-elf wizard and is having a blast even though i dont have that many usefull spells that i can spam (well 4burst of fire and 2 fireballs and 1-2 acid arrow) but its still fun! u get a nice tingling sensation when u open a door and some mobs starts to run at you and you let one fireball explode infront of them causing the lot to die in a fiery death! |
That is because D&D was developed as a roleplaying system, not a hack n slash diablo like clone. If you want to play a diablo clone go play one. I don't bitch that I can't drive a car in Neverwinter nights I just go play GTA. |
[start sarcasm]
Well Duh!
Thank you for pointing out the plain obvious, it is 2 different games using 2 different set of rules. Yea i think i got that....
I just thought that EVERY game with rpg in it should be like d2 otherwise its not an rpg!!
[end sarcasm]
It wasnt meant to be a "bitch fit" just a observation, i like the way nwn is played, i just think it is slow to exp and its abit annoying to rest every other step.(thank tfsm for scrolls though)But i still play it because it is a good game, just takes a little while to get used to it
I´m fairly sure that you can drive a car in nwn, just need to mod it correctly ^^ (shapeshift in too hummer, 4d20+20 Vs humanoids & animals - 40 speed if driving on sidewalk)
ive played too much d2 in my times, its fun for awhile but then it gets extremely boring due to low rpg context, And almost every other character looks alike.

Aces High, if you've got both expansions and you want a hack and slash style experience, try the PRC. About 8 new base classes, 60-70 prestige classes - some pure RP, but others like the Psychic Warrior give you the whole Diablo style experience. |
Yea im going to give that a try later, can´t for now as my discs are locked in the attic and my pick lock skills are to low. And nwn2 is going to be released soon so i doubt that i´ll go to the attic anytime soon to remove the lock. (well i have to anyways need to get the winter tires out of the attic so its "safe to drive around")
Nwn2 is going to be great! (i hope)

you can pre-order and preload the game from D2D, but you'll still have to wait till release date I guess
