runnin this on all max settings sm3 4xaa 4xaf max quality textures everything on absolute max, only in 1024 tho cause of my sucky monitor only supporting shitty refresh rates, and its smooth as hell, not even a sign of stuttering

all this on a simple 7900gt ,2gb ram,amd64 3200 (mildly oc'd), nforce4 board ofcourse, usin 5.1 sound with a audigy2

so im puzzled why some peeps say it runs so bad ? and the looks is so amazing its unreal, i believe at all max it even beats the crap outta oblivion by looks as its way more realistic nature, groundtextures, woodland buildup and so on

Runs here fine on a 7900 gtx, having 2 gb of ram is absolutely a must and changed a lot in the .ini file ( ge3.ini ) now having about 60 fps on average. Almost no stuttering and dropping framerates to 30 Smile

I had a similar problem, it disappeared when I activated depth of field instead of what it was set to as default

Where can I find DoF? I don't see it in Details->Custom.

Move the post-processing slider all the way to the right.

The game is unplayable with 1 GB RAM. There's constant HDD activity and stuttering and every few steps it completely halts for a few seconds. My system is very clean and optimized and has the newest drivers. That's really disappointing! Sad
Gothic 3 may have the better gameplay but the technology in it's current state is far worse than Oblivion's. Maybe they will improve it with some more patches but I guess I will have to wait until I have 2 GB RAM some day.

I have just tried to play the game again it worked fine , i went into options changed details to high
screen flashed an orange colour... came back to the game to see everything in triangles, put the details back to medium still triangles.

So it corrupted itself , it did this once before and all my saves got fucked.

Well fuck this pos, give me nwn2 Very Happy

Tested the Razor release *sigh* The game's only redeeming features are the fighting (which was good, IMO) and the body-awareness. Everything else... If one could integrate the combat in Oblivion, it would be godlike.

Please guys, anyone knows how to fix this? Or point me on nvidia drivers that do not cause this problem. It's unplayable. Sad

Unsure, try to disable/enable DoF (Post-Processing in the middle or on high).

Try the latest NVIDIA driver.

Set AF/AA to "Application Preferance".
(Nvidia Control Panel, also try to disable all optimisations)

Enable/Disable shadows.

Try the latest (October 2006) DirectX.

Can't think of much else that would cause that problem.

Really? it works just fine on a 7800GTX.
(Ah well - higher version number = better )

Anyway the latest then would be the 92.91 driver.

Third post in the thread.

Ah what the hell!

Code:

After having looked through and tested some of the console commands better here's a updated list:
God - Standard godmode cheat.
(as usual with godmode, health won't decrease and you won't die)

Invisibility - Turns the player invisible to everyone else.
(Can still be seen when talking to NPC's or stealing)

Teach - Teaches a specific skill
(Needs a value after it or skill will be set to 0)

Teach all - teaches all skills and stats but also needs a value or everything turns to zero.

Give - gives a specific item but I have not been able to find any item codes. (Tried all sorts of item names)

Give all - gives all items can set a number to recieve more than one item. (Wish I knew the individual item ID's)

Spawn - spawns the selected entity
(Usually type Spawn "letter" and press tab to cycle all avaivible spawns with that word or letter)

Kill - Kills the target.
(Completetly kills target, use with care)

IDKFA - shows a bravo message but also gives all items and skills, probably needs a number behind it to avoid the zero skills and stats problem.

Goto - teleport to a specific target.
(Usually a NPC such as "Goto Otis" - to get NPC names check the spawn trick above)

If you don't want to edit the INI file you can also type Marvin anywhere in the game to enable the same console and debug keys. (Marvin mode activated command prompt shown)

The console is capable of doing nearly anything and for a list of commands open the "keyboard_and_console.txt" in the Gothic3/INI directory.

That file also has a description of all commands and their effect on the game. (The "Something you should not use" descriptions are the common cheat commands)

EDIT: Item codes, some items are meant for NPC's or are test items.
(King Rhobars armor and sword for instance or the Ogre club - though you can find those as worn items)

Set "Max frames to render ahead" to 2. I think you need special drivers/program to set it. I use laptopvideo2go drivers for my 6800 Go, so I don't know what you'd need. The game still pauses during loads, but changing that setting makes the mouse lag go away.

Sorry but the game loads everything into the RAM memory during the initial loading screens and normal values lie between 1.6 GB to 2.4 GB of ram usage during play.

Lowering the cache options will just make the game use the pagefile instead and it already uses the pagefile on 1 - 1.5 GB machines due to all the data needed.

Kinda annoying for those who have "low" amounts of ram but the game is extremely demanding. (Even more so when saving since the game may crash then due to insufficient ram/pagefile storage)

Lowering the resource cache may help but you will get stuttering more often since new data is loaded more often. (View distance doesn't do that much either for stuttering)

Easily verified with the "goto" command since you can move between Xardas and Zuben in a few seconds on a good machine. (From north to south between the whole game)

EDIT: The above comment could work for control/input lag and may help somewhat. Smile

Oblivion:

+First person
+Combat is pretty fun
+Draw distance
+Lighting (Especially in caves/dungeons)
+Realistically generated terrain (very realistic geography/geology)
+Voice acting
+No loading interruptions outdoors
+Tree shadows
+Towns are really far from each other, giving a real sense of distance
+Horses
-Consistently shitty framerate
-Loading at every cave/building
-Boring story
-Blurry, washed-out, muted look. Ugly dull colors.
-Realistically generated terrain (generated... boring to explore)
-Boring mix of realstic period setting and gothic/fantasy setting (lame towns)
-Lame, monotonous, generic "hell" in the Oblivion gates
-Lame random loot and treasure (lockpicks from wolves, anyone?)
-Lame levelling/scaling system
-Boring caves/dungeons with no reason to explore them
-Ugly, ugly, ugly, ugly faces and bodies (the Facegen software is great, but Bethesda's artists must have zero anatomical knowledge and managed to f' it up)
-Impossible to make a decent hybrid character

Bottom line: BROKEN GAME due to retarded leveling/scaling. Other than that, boring. Dreadfully boring.

Gothic 3

+Third person (I generally HATE third person games save for Resident Evil and Max Payne, but it feels right here)
+Story is interesting, with each side offering a different perspective
+Ability to join different factions which affects the outcome of the game
+Hand crafted terrain (interesting to explore)
+Combat with humans/orcs is fun
+Rich textures and colors
+Depressingly realistic cluttered and detailed towns
+Between pauses, it runs smoothly
+No loading when entering caves
+Cave systems are intricate and interesting to explore
+Great looking orcs
+/- Weird looking/mediocre human character models, but it kind of works in a stylish way somehow
-Combat with beasts sucks (you have to kite them with ranged weapons or you die. PERIOD)
-Hand crafted terrain (very unrealistic geography/geology)
-Pauses/stutters every 15-30 seconds when moving through the environment
-Draw distance sucks
-Haven't seen a man-made dungeon yet. Only caves/mines.
-Towns are ridiculously close together
-LENSE FLARE, uuuuuuuuuuugh

Bottom line: ALMOST broken game due to the combat with beasts. Otherwise, a fun and interesting RPG.

Never played a Gothic game before, but I like Gothic 3 save for the frustratingly stupid beast combat.

Haha yeah, after my encounter with a boar and countless deaths and reloadings i need a new keyboard, i hit it too hard and teh freaking keys flew out of it. Wouldnt be actually that bad, but the freaking "quick"load takes as much or even more time to load than just going to the menu and loading from there. And "quick"save is just as bad.
And lol at the comment "When it's not freezing/stuttering, it runs smoothly", well no shit sherlock.

Have you ever thought that armor, a shield, and a really sharp object should be sufficient protection from a wolf? Rolling Eyes
