I like learning from text books. When I was in school I learning best by reading ahead so I knew the topic during the lecture. Science stuff I would make notes before the lecture and make notes on my previous notes. Then I would go home and type out my notes. When I had a test I would condense all memory stuff onto 2 pages.

I get bored of online tutorials, but for the most part I just use the help function if I get stuck. I learn by doing things hands on.

Same here, if I want to learn something I do it and learn as I go along.. sometimes I use books or online tools as a pointer, but I don't think I've ever read an entire book.

I have to read books sometimes, but i'm like a goldfish then. I easily forget what i read, to remember something from a book i need to read it so many times that it gets so boring and i loose motivation from reading.
If i can avoid reading i will, but sometimes i just have to, just to keep updated on stuff.

Well depends on what i read too though.
I learn most from being practical more than anything else.

Same here. I hate it when you are in a theory class and all you have to do is listen how the teacher explains information systems analysis. FFS, some interaction wouldn't hurt. Evil or Very Mad

I like courses cause then you touch base and discuss things, rather than just read. It's also a social environment. Call me a geek but I loved going to class in uni, I hated lectures but loved class cause there were only like 5-10 of us so we had good discussions.

Mathematics, physics, programming, or any other theoretical thing you will never learn properly by being 'practical'.

Books for the win all the way.

Only with maths. Physics is practical also, even theortical physicists need emperical guidance. Otherwise you get string theory which is just mathmatics.

Programming the same, you aint gonna learn anything unless you press F9 and compile.

Depends on what i have to learn. For the science stuff at university i used books, worked best for me. Now for all the administration i prefer live courses there you get your own server to learn.

There is no one all applicable method for 'learning'. I guess the reason why most people prefer books is because most of the stuff we learn is taught in schools with books. But you have to differentiate learning in terms of knowledge and skills.

Try learning how to weld or playing the guitar through a book or video tutorial. Even an experienced welder showing you how to do it right won't be enough until you've tried it yourself.

On the other hand you don't have to be in a fission chamber to learn how fission takes place. Razz

So I guess it depends. Very Happy

What I was going to say. Besides, you shouldn't just read maths books, you should go out and apply it to real world situations. Maths without an application is useless.

So many students come out of university with no pratical experience and get nowhere. A work placement where you apply your knowledge is essential.

Welding is strictly hands on and all based on physical experience with various metals, machines and tools.
Guitar however, can be learned through a video teaching thing. As long as you have a guitar to follow along with

Some can't even do that. My friend has no coordination and doesn't practice on her own what I tell her too. Vidoe learning is for motivated people who truely want to learn. In a Guitar sense anyway.

I need to know exactly what I am doing before I do it. I drive some people nuts because I ask questions. Then I get pissed because they can't answer them.
