Yeh, you need to talk to people in the starting village to "get going"
Good luck, and enjoy!

I think there are some really weird bugs in the actual story line. I had talked to all those guys and none wanted to talk to me the 1st time, loaded up my 2nd save and suddenly I could. The guy at the beach started talking...weird. Found the camp and are starting with alot of quests. Anyhow enjoying it...starting to get back the memories of Gothic 1 and 2, a lot of familiar names etc. |
Ofcourse it is lagging ,.. you put it even to higher details lod,view, et cetera,.. so it will naturaly lag even more

Did already in normal...Its not that sort of lag, to me it just seems unoptimized. I tried a lot of settings and I keep getting the same thing. If you read a bit on different forums about the game you will find an outcry of ppl that bought the game and are just raving mad about the bad performance on normal to advanced rigs.
Comon I havent played a game on my rig that have run so bad as this ever, and I play most games...well the good ones

It's more of a loading lag. I get it once when entering a new loaction then it's silky smooth from then on, even if I leave the loaction and come back.

But the weird animations and the poor texture sort of drags the impression down I must say. Looks like Oblivion...the previous Oblivion that is, except for the surrounding which are beautiful .
Also the constant lag when stuff is loading is pretty annoying I must say. I think it don't
matter what rig U run here, its simply not optimized yet.
Oh well, I guess the hype was not really worth the amount of hype we saw some days ago , but I give this game some more hours before I throw in the towel.
Actually small thing. As I used the saved game files, I start directly in the village IN THE ORC FIGHT! after that I am told to seek the rebel leader....but no one says where. Did I miss something here? have been doing other stuff around the village to find a clue, but nothing. |
talk to diego , then go to the beach house and talk to Laslo and the go back again to the villiage and talk to the other dude in your team ... forgot his name
on and Cox you must tweak your game to look better becoz it still uses Pixelshader 2.0 and not 3.0 ... to tweak this game to look more HYPE open ge3.ini in the \INI\ floder
Code: | VegetationAdmin.ViewRange=7000.0 ; war vorher 3500.0
Shader.CurrentShaderVersion=3_0 ; wird komischerweise nur auf 2_0 gestellt. Sieht mit 3_0 DEUTLICH besser aus
ObjectDetails.fProcessingRangeFadeOutRange_High=500.0 ; vorher: 300.0
ObjectDetails.fRangedBaseLoDOffset_High=500.0 ; vorher: 300.0
ObjectDetails.fProcessingRangeFadeOutRange_Medium=600.0 ; vorher: 500.0

to have NO LAG you must set the cache higher in the ge3.ini
Code: | Cache.SizeImage=128000000
Cache.SizeMaterial=40000000
Cache.SizeMesh=70000000
Cache.SizeSound=80000000
Cache.SizeCollisionMesh=40000000
Cache.SizeAnimation=40000000
Cache.SizeSpeedTree=10000000 |
this ones are the orginal setting , so now we must figure it out how much we need
still Where the fuck are you Epsilon , STOP PLAYING GOTHIC 3 and tell US witch values did you changed
anyway i play with constant 35-40 fps and it drops to 12fps when it loads a new location ,

Does anyone else get a BSOD because of the atksgt.sys tages file when you try to start the game from a physical drive. I can't get it to work from a virtual drive. Any ideas?

Not a BSOD, but 2/10 tries my comp hardlocks - guess for the same reason. I don't know of a way to avoid it but to keep trying.

i think this game is just going to be one of those games your gonna have to buy because all the protection that it has. Because if you look at it this way, whenver someone do make a crack for it your gonna sooner or later patch it to fix errors, and then the crack want work anymore.
For those who cant wait i think it will be best if we buy the UK verson insted of waiting for the USa verson

Depends, the campany can make the patch so that it somehow changes the protection software in someway as to make the 1.0 version crack useless.
However in most cases, the campany never does such a thing, and all you have to do is apply the patch while the game still has the source exe. and not the cracked one, after you apply the patch you can just apply the crack and it will work perfectly.

are you using Windows XP 32bit?!
XP 32bit only uses only about 2Gigs for apps... rest is reserved for windows itself... there is a tweak to get it up to 3Gigs... but you will NEVER get the full 4Gigs for apps...

Anyone know how to open AA in Gothic3 using chuck driver?
Anyone know how to open AA in Gothic3 using chuck driver? I tried 6.6 chuck and 6.9 chuck drivers, but noAA effect. I've used 6.6 chuck in Oblivion to open HDR+AA. Also someguy in german 3d forum can use 6.9 chuck driver to open AA in Gothic3. Anyone have a idea? thx.

I posted some info on the memory leaks on a previous page but the game does take up about 1.5 GB ram during play so it's no wonder it runs out of memory after a while. (Lowering the resource cache would help but stuttering/loading would increase a bit)
Haven't been able to do much with the INI aside from view distance for different objects and similar minor tweaks.
(The comments warn people from adjusting the cache just like that due to instability and ram usage)
Tried to increase view distance and such on every object and ran out of memory after about one hour of playing.
(Looked really good though but it was too much for the game and my system)
Still experimenting with it but i'm not getting much progress done.
(Cache values for instance made the game's loading times roughly ten times longer and crashed the game after some time)
Guess most values are as high as they can be.
(Tried to double them, will have to try and halve them and see what happens)
Still I guess that only a patch will fix the memory issue for good.
EDIT: To above, try making a copy of the exe file and naming it Oblivion.
EDIT #2: Fixed, and I know, happens automatically whenever I write something.
(From never using them to overusing them, ah well atleast it's somewhat readable)

Hi,
I recommend: try to run Gothic3 under Win2000. Under XP the performance was the pure horror, stuttering sound, permanently lags etc, but now using Win2000 its running sweet (OK, major slowdowns in some of the cities) and no crashes (beside the savegame-crash, but thats a bug). the OS itself needs far less momeory and/or performance, that may be the reason(Athlon XP 64 3200, 1,5 gigs, 7900GT 512 mb).
I bought the original. My opinion so far:
+ huge world, great atmosphere
+ excellent graphics and landscape design
+ real freedom, many fractions to join, many ways to solve quests
+ "living world" feeling
+ epic scope and story
+ voice acting (german)
- many AI, pathfinding and clipping bugs
- not exactly many items to choose or find (no match for morrowind, for example). like in oblivion you have in chests random generated stuff.
- really very bad questlog/diary, you often dont know what to do, where to search etc.
- balancing problems, animals far too overpowered. even with level 20 most aggressive animals are able to kill you with 2-3 hits. animals are even killing quest relevant characters (if you have bad luck)
- horrible close combat system. bow/magic works better (in my opinion)
- slow progression in the beginning due to ultra hard difficulty
- loading times absolutely unbearable

Tydirium , you have right but :
- slow progression in the beginning due to ultra hard difficulty (in 7 h ahm make it now 12h my hero is level 12 with Assasin sword that poisions and gives 120 damage orcs dies with one blow , so i don`t think its hard but i played the other parts but i think this game lacks a tutorial at the begining for the beginers and not some tips windows )
- loading times absolutely unbearable (in low detail game loads 12 sec , medium 1min , high 1m:30sec , and with my custom setting i posted 2min )
and one thing that pissed me alot was the killing blow that you must give your enemy to kill him , in the gothic 1 and 2 this was easy but now ...damn its imposible to make it... RMB then LMB and move down ... and with some luck you kill him , thats why i recomend to anyone to FIND A POISON sword NO more killing strike
