Just image what size the ground texture would have to be to look good when you are landing/taking off or flying near the ground, then imagine this:
1) How long it would take to make such a ground texture, spanning the world!
2) How big of a performance hit it would take (as if the game isn't demanding enough already)
Why does FlightSimX and Vista take so up so much resources? Microsoft is in bed with half the hardware world and they will earn shitloads of $$$ when people upgrade their machines for either of them.

Water? Half life 2's Water effect is better. |
Kind of unfair to compare a game with as big areas as FSX with hl2/q3 which only use small maps.
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Quake3 looks like shit on anyone's monitor, real shit.

Can you fly around the world in HL2? Nope, didn't think so either, because HL2 has got itsy bitsy tiny shitty small maps!
Quote: | Lousy and unoptimize game.... |
Well, I can agree with unoptimized to a certain extent. But it's just Microsoft's way of telling you to buy more expensive hardware from their partners.
Quote: | who created the game? dont i bet they use Quad CORE PENTIUM 1 while developing this game. oh well, who cares, its free.... will junk my copy till I buy Pentium "10" and use this. |
Microsoft created it, and quad core Pentium1 does not exist. Pentium1 died a decade ago

Those tweaks doesnt do ANYTHING to me, still 5-10fps in Seattle etc.
And i did em both to the fsx.cfg file and a saved cfg file which i later loaded, doesnt matter, did no difference what so ever!
Set the things superlow.
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=500
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=500
Still no difference what so ever, even changed the density sliders AS WELL to Normal, no difference, exactly the same density/framerate as if i deleted those 2 lines completely.
Bugs the hell out of me, at least it should make a difference, which is lowering the auto-gen objects, but nope, nothing happens.

The thing is you're not missing a great deal with it off completely. You have to accept that. I have my settings to the highest IMAGE quality and it looks great. UNFORTUNATELY that only counts for my area which isn't so heavily operated. As soon as you get to places like Tokyo and so forth it's slideshow city and the biggest culprits are AI.... but it's so dead without AI that I do need them on.
I don't know. It's a comprimise. I haven't paid for the game so I'm not complaining and I remember having FPS troubles with all versions of this game in the past (even when they were on floppies). Just comes with the territory.
Oh and who said Half-life 2's water is better? You are right of course in a sense but considering the scope of this game on the highest settings this water is relatively better in comparison.

I'm not sure about the poles. FS2004 was limited in order not to let you travel straight over the poles. However, since the altitude limitation was changed from 99,999 feet to 500,000 feet, I wouldn't be surprised if the poles limitation was removed.

Woah, I have a dual screen setup and I usually drop the multidisplay feature to use multi-core (SLI) instead in my nvidia drivers when games don't run fast enough with one card. Thing is, I just realised FSX only take advantage of one card anyway so it didn't change crap, I switched it back to multi display and wondered why my second monitor became black when launching the game (in other games it stay in windows). After thinking about it I tried to create a new view (press alt, view -> new view or something like that) and dragging it on the second screen. To my surprise it worked!! First time I see a game capable or rendering 3d on both monitor at the same time. Plus, I HAVE NO FPS DROP (ok maybe 1fps), well no more than opening a second view on the same screen!! Only problem, I have a few visual artefact (black flashing dots everywhere in the sky),.. bah no big deal.

I realise there are millions of addons, I was curious as to which addons were present in those particular screenshots?
