The Czech review resume is very positive about Gothic III (84%).
Saying: (the best from Gothic I + II)^2
They say, that only major flaws are the bugs (crashes, freezing, poor AI and combat tweaking needed). As they say, the game should be maybe 3 months more in development. But othewise they say the game has great potential and the rating would be more than 90%.
So, I am thinking that maybe the three months to release patches and the game is going to fully entertain the fans of the series.

Lets be optimistis and hope they will handle the bugs.
Anyway, I think the Jowood is to blame, since it is always trying to rush the games. But on the other hand look at the development times of Duke Nuken Forever (or better - never ever) Stalker or many others...

so lets play this game in 2007 after the v1.67 patch LOL Laughing

Mmm.. seen as it appears to be crashing every 15 or so mins I'm thinking it *could* be due to autosave.. is there a way to disable it?

Heh, I am experiencing Deja-vu right now.
Of course Gothic fans are going to play it even with the bugs. The crash-break is healthy and useful for a snack or a drink.
And we can replay the game when the final aptch is out. Twice the fun O.o

There aren't so many people playing games twice. I prefer a good and solid game above a buggy one which you need to play twice.

Install the patch, never crashed once since I installed it.

I installed the patch.. it crashed again, this time while chatting to someone in the village.. seriously, I do hate to say this, but for me it seems unplayable. Gonna check out the forums and maybe try uninstalling the patch to see if that helps.

BTW, when you click on the "check for updates" thing, does it still tell you there are updates?

I had the same problem, the thing is it compiles the shaders on the first run but assumes you've already run it once, only solution is to first uninstall the patch, then uninstall the game, reinstall the game, start a new game with your desired level of detail, exit the game, install the patch, now it should work with no distortions and most of all no crashes.

I'm trying that now.. what about the caching thing you meantioned earlier? You said you set caching to full Neutral?

I wonder whats happens when you try to kill the humans in the initial fight when the game begins...or do you always have to kill the orks to progress at the beginning ?

yes it's in the custom detail menu, if you don't set that as high as possible you will crash, as theres just too much data, bit ridiculous to set it that low, too much dependant on your gfx card driver that way and we all know what kind of crap they can be Rolling Eyes
On a related note I havent slept for 35 hours now, gothic is just too good for me to let go...
back to gothic I go.

Well I have to say since I didnt have such high expectations, I am quite impressed with the game itself and also the performance on my pc. It defaulted to medium settings which I kinda expected. At first the game was quite choppy since there is a lot going on screen but general movement is pretty smooth and for medium settings I think it looks quite good as well. I like first person view. It feels surprisingly realistic. Load times arent too bad either and so far I do not think it was a waste of money! Just to test it I thought I would ramp everything upto high and it said it was restarting the game but in actual fact it just quit out of it lol. At that point I decided to post this message.

I think that's another bug, guess they meant to let the game restart itself when you change the shadermodel and post-processing effects since those two need different shader files but instead the game just quits and has to be manually started up again.

It's not a big problem though.

It's wierd, never crashes here and runs 100% with no stuttering.... quality at high, though I did change the lightning renderer to 4 instead of two in the ini file, vertex lightning is...ack Razz
I can't understand why people are having these troubles when i'm not, maybe I'm just lucky..., it's quite sad as the game is BRILLIANT! and the best rpg i've played since Baldurs gate and i'm sorry I can't share this experience with everyone.

The only thing I can think off is that something happens mid game (in the background) about every 15 or so mins.. as it seems to crash everytime after playing for around that amount of time. Is there an Auto Save? Or a Re-Caching function that happens every so often?
