Usually the street date it broken by big players like GAME, however if a small local business is already selling a swift call to head office and all the stores will be selling it, your best bet may be to visit a large supermarket chain on the wednesday or thursday before release, they may be selling it early.
Even if they are not, you could go and tell your local Gamestation (if you have one) that a chain are already selling it, GAME are less likely to believe you, as usually the assistants are arseholes(sweeping overgeneralization ftw).
Good luck.

we're going off topic now, but honestly am not who u say i am. Im soundtrak, a producer from london, make hip hop/grime music, just about to drop my album in 3 months, but besides the point, who works in Software Retail stores? I work in sainsburys myself, but they wont get the game in 3 - 4 days early as we dont stock PC games at my store.

I've been working for game for about three and a half years.
Actually, we usually don't break a street release date unless its been confimed that another chain of shops have already broken it. Its quite strict as the publishing companys don't particuarly like it being messed about with, and they pay us lots of money to display their shit. (ever wonder why a shitty new release EA game goes straight into number 1 in the chart the day its been released)
As for the assistants, try to avoid going in on weekends when the weekend staff are on duty

I know GAME dont break the street date until a local chain does, or another larger group does, that is what I was trying to say, my meaning was that if GAME has indeed broken the street date its a safe bet its out everywhere. As was the case with GTA:VC for example, I have also worked at a game retail outlet for several years.
As for the weekend staff, as true as that comment is, I think most of the managers are douches.

I work at GAME, and none of our staff, nor our manager are douches. But we're not in a big main city, so maybe thats why.
Its very rare for GAME to break street date before someone else like Gamestation do.
On the thursday Dead Rising street date was was broken by Gamestation, i'd heard loads of stuff on the Xbox forums about people being able to buy it, so I went down, asked (before I was working there), and they said no. Just as soon as I'd asked, an email came in saying street date had been broken and it was now on sale.
You're more likely to get it before release at a Gamestation, the guys there don't seem to give a flying fuck about steet dates.

Did your boss never tell you it looks mighty unprofessional slagging off your competition? Game in my home town is full of dicks, and gamestation next door are very helpful and not pushy like Game are.
What does a few days matter when buying a game? just wait for it. and Soundtrak, you sound like you are full to the brim with shit. "I'm a music producer, I'm dropping my hiphop album in 3 months, but meanwhile I work at Sainsburys." What a load of bullshit. I bet theres about 10 students in every sainsburys in the country who think they are just working there til their "band" hits the big time. You'll still have your orange apron on in 5 years i'd wager!
