would be interesting if people just forgot that assgame oblivion

Let me guess, you played Oblivion for 20-30 hours and decided it was crap. Just like all the otherpeople who played it for 20-30 hours and called it crap after those long hours Rolling Eyes
OT Rant - I played it for 60+ hours, and then realized it was crap, and that I had wasted 60 hours of my life on crap. It happens. The game isn't fun. I just like to explore the ayleid tombs. and that got old. So I stopped. Also, Oblivion gates suck. I can't see how the developers got the idea in thier head that someone would actually want to go to back to another oblivion gate after the first time. They're boring.
Oh, and the engine sucks ass.. Gamebryo should burn. Why do I get flashbacks of wolfenstien when I walk up to a wall bethesda? And whats with that line in the distance that seperates the decent from the fugly?
Also, why does it take so much power to play the game? I had to tweak the hell out of the ini to keep the framerates as smooth as I wanted (30 -35 in heavily wooded areas). Why should I have to do this with a 7800GT?
Theres no way in hell that the developers forgot to put in multi-core detection. So why then, are my multi-threaded options in the ini all turned off? And someone explain to me why the mast of one ship in anvil takes up 13k poly's? Why would a model EVER need that many polys? And for something as unremarkable as a mast?
If I were bethesda, I'd have fired my graphic artists, drop the crappy engine, and go with Unreal 3<- (preferably) or an enhanced build of Source <-(LOVED Dark Messiah demo) and make the game alot less crappy.
Radiant Ai was talked about alot during development, but who the hell actually saw it positively affect gameplay? I see people talking with each other from time to time, but its all recycled. I never see people doing anything that couldn't have been scripted, and I never saw anything all that groundbreaking in the enemy AI either. I did find alot of bugs though, that were always good for a cheap laugh. (Town riots, lol.)
The combat did get better since morrowind though, and I liked that part. butit wasn't enough of an improvement to make it any more enjoyable in the long run, and if the enemy's are always able to level with you, wheres the fun in leveling? I can't be an almighty god and rip down entire cities anymore? Wheres the fun, in the fact, that you are leveling up, but still getting the same amount of challenge at each level? The game is ok for the first 10 hours or o, but after you start leveling, and realizing, that there isn't any reason to, the game goes into a huge downward spiral.
Just my 2 cents. I guess bethesda thought they could release the game and let the modding community fix the rest for them. (Which Oscuro's seems to be doing a good job of.)

LOL... Thanks. Well, my new sig basically represents what I do for a living (Car Designer) And that pose with Lorne Greene...well its actually from an episode of The Simpsons. Comic Book Guy actually said that striking that pose in one episode of Treehouse of Horrors Wink But you probably knew that Razz

It took me a while to explore all the alyied tombs :\ After that though, I came away feeling like I wasted time. Which isn't my idea of fun. I can't even bring myself to finsih the MQ. I got to the part where you

 Spoiler:

and couldn't bring myself to keep playing. it was boring. Also, this was around the time I got the dark Messiah demo, so that may have had something to do with it feeling more boring o.o

Gexx isn't alone. And he provided many valid reasons why some of us dislike the game. I don't enjoy hating it, though. It had so much potential that it's simply sad to think of how badly Bethesda fumbled on it, and how much more they could have done with the game.

I agree, bethesda had a great, if buggy game with morrowind. And Oblivion had the potential to be so much better. I was looking foward to it all through development, I feel I was promised alot of things though, that didn't get delivered. and I couldn't find it in me, to like it after I finally got the chance to sit down with it. Its not that I didn't want to like it, but I mean, after you spend $50 on something, who really wants to dislike it? Oblivion doesn't appeal to me the way morrowind did. Morrowind was alot more about choice and customisation/personalization to me. I liked being able to have the option of using shurikens if I wanted to. Or leveling up to the point I could take out an entire village of guards. I liked being able to move around without having someone hold my hand and point me to my next quest. Morrowind brought you into the game so much more than Oblivion, and thats why I think oblivion was a big step down.

No, oblivion was a let down because of the hype...PERIOD. If oblivion was released by some other company with another name it would have been applauded as a one of a kind game.

It's due to everyone saying "WHOAMGOSH A NEW ELDER SCROLLS IT HAS TO BE BETTER THAN THE LAST ONE!!!!" over hyped the game and *WOW* it didn't live up to the unobtainable expectations people set on it.

Oblivion was an AWESOME game, but the thing is people expected awesome x 10.

Same thing is going to happen with Gothic 3 I'm afraid. It's overhyped and will never live up to expectations for most of you, whether you know it or not. You saw how good gothic 2 was and immediatly expect 3 to be better. Ever think that sometimes games just dont GET BETTER?? Better graphics and physics DO NOT mean a better game necessarily!

PS. To he who played oblivion for 60 hours then "decided it sucked"....I dont think so.

Epsilon is definitely going to be let down by this game...I think he's breathing gothic 3 and eating it for breakfast. No video game is going to come out that will meet his expectations. Someone harps over it day in and day out before they even play it is just setting themself up for being disappointed.

I promise I'm not intending to be insulting, but I think you're just in denial. I really tried hard to like Oblivion. I wasn't a huge fan of Morrowind, and I feel like Oblivion tried to, and even succeeded, in improving upon some of the aspects in which Morrowind was lacking.

But in the end, Oblivion is just a very tedious, generic, uninspired Diablo clone with very fancy technology pulled over it.

I don't dislike traditional fantasy environments, and I certainly prefer realistic terrain to alien-ish terrain in my fantasy games (aka Morrowind), but Oblivion's environments (save for open terrain) are nothing short of dreadfully bland. The environment concept preference is just a matter of opinion, as many people liked Morrowind's unique setting, but even as a typical fantasy setting Oblivion fails. The towns and dungeons might as well have been randomly generated. The textures are muddy and dull. The atmospheric lighting in cities might as well be, HELL, IS nonexistent.

I'm tired of writing this, so I'll just finish by saying that:

The faces and body anatomy of the characters is god awful, as Bethesda's art team is completely clueless and failed even with wonderful software like Facegen.

The clothing, armor, and weapons are lackluster to look at.

And the core game is very simply BROKEN.

The idea that doing something makes you improve at it is great, but they went and left in abstract, point-adding crap like levels and stats which totally defeats the seamlessness and purpose of such a system.

Anyway, I'm just going to stop. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's not just an inherently BADLY EXECUTED AND UNDER-DESIGNED GAME, but I think it is.

well if this game is rotected with XProt just like spellforce, I think that we will have a clone soon enough. If I remember well I played Spellforce and all it's add-ons so we have nothing to worry about.
