oh fuck they have done it again. different character maker different type of battles different music composer same fucking brilliant game. it doesnt matter who works on these fucking games they are the ideal game i am scared at how brilliant the ps3 will make the new games if square was a woman i would have a restraining order against me

Yes and yes, this game is so different from all other ff games that you cant really call it ff anymore.
It looks and sounds alot more like Vagrant Story (after all both games are sharing the same director), and it plays like a more fun version of KOTOR.
No more annoying random encounters, no more battle screen transitions, no more bullshit.
The graphics are great, the gameplay and story even better and the voice acting is the best I ve ever heard in a console RPG.
I was very sceptical about this game, but wow, I m hooked. |

Well I'm having controller problems! My select(open: map), triangle(open: menu) and squair(pause screen) don't work and they only NOT work to do those things.
Using the iND and Swap magic 3.6

I disagree.
I like the change in the battle system, as far as the battle music. I actually do not miss it.
Lets face it the battle music gets old really, really fast in other FF games. To many battles same music over and over. It gets old.
The new system being able to see ememies is not so bad at all. They went with something different and I like it. Its a nice change.
The more I play this game the more I am loving it, and I really did not think I would be able to get into this game because of the changes.
I am only 4 hours into the game, and I am really impressed with this game. Best Final fantasy game I have played since FF7-FFX. Not comparing the old school FF games.

is it really certain there won't be anything missing between this and retail?
even the nfo states there's a difference in file sieze between them.
i'd hate to get to the end only to find out the the missing bytes equates to the ending movie >_>.

I disagree with pallebrun completely, I find this game to be a masterpiece.
All the changes they made are very welcome, the random encounters and battle screen transitions were invented due to limitations of the NES era, a new system was long over due. They created a great battle system that is very fun to play and did away with all the crappy random encounters.
The characters and story are so much more mature this time around and the translation/voice overs are the best I ve ever witnessed in a US version of a jap RPG.
Most characters speak in "olde english" and it feels like youre reading a poem, thats how good the translation and voice overs are.
The music is always very fitting and the style and art direction are amazing.
This game is the first great FF game on the PS2, and it could become my favourite.
I ve been playing for around 18 hrs now and I ve never felt bored for a moment, this game has a great balance between gameplay and cutscenes, it has a very good flow.
FF fanboys may not like the game, well grow up, these changes were long over due, everything was changed for the better.
I personally wouldnt ve even touched this game if it was crap like FF10 (or even worse FFX-2 ugh), but it has completely blown me away gameplay-wise, story-wise and in any other way possible.
Perfect 10/10, probably the best RPG I ve ever played.

yes, but those limitations were sometimes positive. just look at how metroid looked. the screen is mostly black, but it gives a great sence of dystopia and thus making the game one of the best in gfx design.

some limitations maybe resulted in a unique game atmosphere, but random encounters and battle screen transitions dont fall under that cathegory.
after over a decade of playing games with these 2 aspects I grew tired, it really needed to go and never come back again.
Its sad that most fans will hate ff12 because of this, while actually it was a most logical step in the right direction that resulted in a great game.
Anyone who didnt like the FF series so far should give this game a try,
the gameplay is more like KOTOR than FF actually, which is a good thing. |
