Lol, even when he's ignored, he annoys me... Any mod cares to put him (and us) out of misery?

directx 9L means directx9 legacy...as in for legacy hardware every card below the dx10 featureset defaults to dx9L. Directx 9 in vista does (so they say) run more efficient because of the cleanup that occured whilst revising it for vista, but we're tapering towards the end of the dx9 hardware cycle i wouldnt expect to see any more huge revisions to the hardware its3elf. Your dx9 cards wont suddenly be producing mbetter effects they'll simply run more efficiently. Directx 10 has no legacy suppourt it is a totaly re imagining of the api.
Now for the guy who said xbox360 doesnt use directx 9.1...i never said it did, i said think of it like that. Actually 9.5 would probabaly have been more accurate Next thing, and this is FACT so quit ur internal dialogue and speculation. The xbox360 api is based on directx 9 it shares common dx9 libraries. BUT it has features that were branched off during the development of dx10. It is a fair bit more advanced that dx9 but it isnt directx 10. It has featuresets that were ready at the time, hence the enhanced shaders, and the enhanced memory achitecture. You could argue uified shaders is also an offshoot of this, its something microsoft is very much behind with dx10. Not one card you can buy atm for your PC is as advanced as the ATI GPU in the 360. And thats simply because the PC didnt need the update..its coming with DX10 and with that the PC will be back as the frontrunner, lets just hope games for windows takes off cuz $400 for a good card that runs the 4 or 5 decent games a year is where the problem lies

The big problem is that many companies get the "EA Syndrome"... They are afraid that users might not like their product if they can't run it on max settings on their GFMX440 and GFFX5200. So what they do is still support DX8 effects and legacy hardware... It's good that UBI is focusing only on SM3.0 with SCDA. This should make the game run better on the new hardware, instead of running like crap on all hardware.

i agree..there has to be a point where legacy HW is dropped, its good for the economy for starters. And games do suffer because of legacy suppourt, it increases cost of development, testing, we get mired in the inevitable patch needed 3 days after retail. By narrowing down these things we the end user get a far better product. There's a point where poeple who bought that geforce ti just have to suck it up and face facts that the $400 they spent doesnt gaaruntee they should be able to play Crysis. I bought a 7800GTX and dont plan on updating til the second cycle of dx10 cards...the first ones are always outdated fast as production costs come down and they find a way to pump out more. If ATi bring their unified shader architecture to their dx10 line i'll be buying one of those.

I have a GF6600, so I guess I have to get one of the new DX10 cards... Afaik, ATI's R600 has unified shader architecture and nVidia's G80 doesn't. It should be interesting to see which will be faster in current-gen (i.e. DX9) games.

AFIAK, G80 and R600 will both be Unified.

We'll have to see when the cards come out...

Actually it is english, but when talking about the country it's either England, Britain, Great Britain or United Kingdom. When talking about the flag it's Union Jack and not union jack

Either you're not English or you're retarded.
Or both. Which makes sense, since most English people are. |
I actually went and looked it up, it appears you were correct and it 'is' English, I assume your American?
