So is this WGA effecting the corporate versions? I know that previous authenticators didn't, the one they used to run on the website was never bothered the two people who's computers I installed corp on, but they're asking me if they should get WGA or not. Anyone have the old corp version? They have the one that had the FCK..etc key, but I used that keygen that generates and checks keys to install it so that they could upgrade to SP2.

each xp version with all updates to date installed is affected
this means that your friend's xp versions do not have all updates installed

no..what I mean is, will the new WGA invalidate the copy? I've heard conflicting information and I'm wanting to know if anyone has installed WGA on that version and knows if it'll be okay or not.

You won't be okay unless you install a cracked WGA version, I'm using the same version and had the annoying nag screen for a while.

okay. I know that the corp version was immune to the authenticator they had on the website awhile ago, I'd had a few people running corp that updated without issue when that was out.
This cracked WGA, is there a nice simple instruction set for it somewhere? (I know that there have been several different methods discussed on the board here so far) Say something someone with a novice level could follow. My father is across the country, and I certainly can't be there to install it for him.

So of course, I found instructions, and low and behold there was a problem:
| Code: | 1.) Download and install the official WGA Tool from Microsoft Update.
(DO *NOT* REBOOT AFTERWARDS!!!)
2.) Extract the files from the RAR archive you just downloaded. Extract
to a folder of your choice.
3.) Locate the folder "System32" which is usually found under the
follwing address: "C:\WINDOWS\System32\".
4.) Locate the following files in the System32 folder:
- "LegitCheckControl.dll" --> Rename to --> "LegitCheckControl.dll*.bak*"
- "WgaLogon.dll" --> Rename to --> "WgaLogon.dll*.bak*"
- "WgaTray.exe" --> Rename to --> "WgaTray.exe*.bak*".
5.) Now go back to the folder where you extracted the cracked files
(from the RAR file), highlight them all, and copy them (CTRL + C).
6.) Go back to the System32 folder (C:\WINDOWS\System32\) and paste the
files into the folder (CTRL + V).
7.) Now you can reboot and enjoy nag-free windows with all the updates
you want! |
the files never showed up after installation in windows\system32.
I had him ensure hidden/operating system files were shown, and he tried using the search function and couldn't find any of the files on the hard drive. Did MS change the tool in the last couple of days to something else now?

what's the news on the WGA Cracks?
I had Windows.Genuine.Advantage.Validation.v1.5.540.0.CRACKED-NC and it worked fine during the past few weeks, but now, when I go to the windows updateit will ask for the windows genuine confirmation.
did microsoft released a new version of WGA?

ok ... bill strikes back again over here. legitcheckcontrol.dll with version number 1.5.0708.0
currently impossible to download anything from microsoft site. windows also blocked because of not being genuine
any fix around?

Yeah. Make sure when you do a windows update you go to CUSTOM and untick the "Windows Genuine Advatange Notification Tool Update" (or whatever its called) option before you do an update (I was able to get the most recent VML security update just then).
In fact, tick the box to hide it so it doesn't come up again the next time you do a Windows Update. You will see a notice saying "you have hidden important updates" or whatever if you have done it right.
So in short, do a CUSTOM windows update and don't download anything to do with genuine advantage.

If your installation is not validated you will only get access to critical updates and no other updates.

Odd because I still am given the options to download optional hardware and software updates even if I ignore Windows Genuine Advantage Notification update.
