if you're going to get one of the compact sony cameras, get one with image stabilization ... Wink

I think sony calls it 'super steady shot' or something like that. really helps when you're taking pictures indoors without flash Wink

well, if you get a compact, just make sure it has image stabilization if you want to use this camera with friends and are drinking. it helps everyone take non-blurry pictures Wink

That's a CyberShot T30, anyhow, here's a site that sorts digital cameras by price range. Their reviews are pretty good.

from that website, 3 different brands of compact cameras, all with image stabilization Smile

http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-sd700_reviews.html
http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/sony-cybershot-t30_reviews.html
http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/panasonic-lumix-fx3_reviews.html
http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/panasonic-lumix-tz1_reviews.html

this panasonic one has image stabilization and 10X optical zoom ... although it's not as compact .. might not fit in your pocket very well ...

this is a cool idea, a rotatable lens ... one regular one wideangle ...

Edit. You may not like it, becasue it runs on AAs. I hate battery paks.

even better, A710 .. has image stabilization, 6x optical zoom ... takes AA Wink

http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-a710_reviews.html

Quote:
The A710 IS is Canon's first point-and-shoot to offer image stabilization, for reducing jitters and blur in deep zoom photos. When Canon debuted the A700, the 6x optical zoom was a new frontier for point-and-shoot cameras. It was very popular, but it wasn't quite perfect. Though not as susceptible to shaking and jittering as smaller, less sturdy cameras, the A700's larger-than-average zoom still could have used some support. Well, with the A710 IS, Canon has done just that, bringing back the popular feature set and design fo the A700, while adding advanced image stabilization technology. The IS, the fantastic 7.1 megapixel sensor and ability to take 16:9, wide-aspect still photos, make the A710 IS a truly superior camera for casual users looking for some easy-to-use power.

lots of good digital SLRs Wink way too big for me though Razz

actually that looks really good. I'll keep it in mind when someone asks me about a good entry level SLR that doesn't cost 3 billion dollars! Smile

not bad only ~$600 in Canada cheapest one there Razz

wouldn't doubt it ... if I needed to buy one, you can bet I wouldn't be shelling out $$$$$$$$$ ... $500 CAD is pretty affordable for that camera.

but shit ... the lenses aren't so cheap Shocked'
'
I only have a dsc-w5 ... it cost me almost $500 over a year ago... does the trick except for the blurriness in indoor shots, and with the zoom. that's why I would want one with the image stabilization Wink

a wide angle lens for mine is about 100-150 bucks Neutral

That's a good cam, i have the 7.2 Megapixels Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200. It too has blurriness in indoor shots, you've got to be very still while shooting. It's the only flaw i see in the camera. Tend to loose a lot of pictures to blurriness Sad

thats why I would think cybershot + image stabilization = teh pwn! Razz some pics can turn out so great and then others are shit Neutral I see it as the feature that defines new point and shoot cameras

my dsc-w5 is a really versatile camera ... shoots video great too, and at unlimited length like all cybershots always have Smile

do you have problems with yours?

I actually started with a DSC-P92 about 4 years ago (and an extended warranty) ... it stopped working for no reason after 2 years, so they gave me the w5 in return because the model was replaced and this one was the same megapixel rating. good deal, but would have been shit without a extended warranty ...

hehehe this review calls it 'top of the line' ... what difference a little time makes Razz

Mine is fine, had it for about 2 years with no problems. Good thinking with the warranty though Wink
