Tried the demo
Well if you like the 4 you'll like this one, however it still needs a lot of polishing.
The interface is rough, it misses some important feature (like the adjust research till the next level option ) and iit has quite a few bugs and crashes
The potential though is all there and with mods that could become a masterpiece like the 4 was !

To download the demo i recommend the torrent, is quite fast and works well (was posted on original forums)

This game is gonna be an awesome old-school game. Playing the demo i felt like years ago while i had fun with games like MoO2 or Master of Magic. All hose details it takes into account plus the neat graphic overhaul to the shareware-ish 4th part. I gonna get stuck with that one.

Oh boy.. i've been having a hard time to sit thight since the day this one has been announced. Checked the forums for release date updates virtually every day since june. I miss out one day and they release the demo...

I just fear that i'll feel like i felt with moo3. Too much anticipation, too many expectations to which the game simply can't live up. I really hope Malf does the impossible to lives up to my expectations. Not really looking for another moo3-ish let down.

Tell me, please tell me the game has it. The SE gene, tell me they didnt ruin it with the 3d combat engine and real time battles. Tell me they made a true and worthy sequel to the current king of 4x space strategy games... Tell me fast, as the demo is halfway down and if you don't tell me, i'll have to face the harsh reality myself.

Smile

Oh well.. that's how much i've been looking forward to this one. I just got the feeling, i'll be sick for a few days beginning around the 26th or 27th of september. Razz

I think I'll try the demo but the gfx do look BAD.. and maybe from what I've read there's way too much to be researched as well as too many planets, they should've spent a little more time doing better gfx and reduce the game's complexity. Too much complexity + crap gfx, are not a winning formula.

Try sword of the stars, thats more along those lines, this game caters to a niche audience and you probably won't ever see it streamlined.
The next in the series will have better graphics though as there will be a professional team doing the graphics instead of just one guy, but if graphics and easy to play hard to master is your thing go play sword of the stars thats a great game aswell.

Oh, i think many of the SE IV fans, including myself will want to argue with your last sentence.

Sure: balance between complexity and looks is important, but I rather have a game stocked to the teeth with features even at the expense of shiny graphics, instead of an empty shell of Eye candy, which dies even on the newest Radeon XXX9999999 card.

The SE series always favored content over graphics.. in fact i find the new game too fancy. Aaron wanted to make it look better, but while he made it look somewhat better, he also managed to make it an UI nightmare. Then again, he always cared for what the community thought and wanted, so i think he'll have it streamlined in a patch or two.

btw: isnt it the 25th already? Smile

I think they put too much effort to the graphics, seeing he can't really do them Smile Should have stuch to something very simple and let the fans mod it.

Space Empires nn can't have too much complexity.

Yay for 25th \o/
