One of the most annoying features in this game. I was riding my horse, minding my own business, when I suddenly jumped down a rather steep cliff. The horse died, but I survived. Then I got that fucking message and had to load the game. It is totally unimmersive to do this in a game, like saying "If you fail, you have to load, because our mappers suck balls".

it is enjoyable but coulve been better. GUN had better freedom, thats what i was expecting rather than being so linear.
X6800 Core Duo wasted within a shite DFI 975x/g,
2GB OCZ PC8000 XTC XE, X1900 Crossfire(have my own powerstation), Audigy 2, Z680 5.1

I do not mind linear gameplay... INDOORS! But Call of Juarez forces you to go certain paths which the developers laid out to you OUTDOORS. Everything else is fenced in or otherwise, and when you walk across certain lines in maps you see a short cutscene and more enemies magically appear. It sucks that they even did not try to conceal the scripting.

LOL Iced, graphics means as much as gameplay. And GUN looked seriously like fucking puke on my monitor - it would have been so much better if it had at least decent graphics.

i say fuck COJ for its stupid lame ending. i hate games where i go thru a bunch of shit and spend my time then i get a shit ass ending.
stupid speech...im not gonna take shit from no one no more
THE END.
and gfx dont mean damn near half as much as gameplay. if they did then i couldnt possibly enjoy old ass atari/nes/gen games.

It lasted more than two seconds, and it was more meaningful than most video game endings.

Hey, talking about secret ending, would anyone have cheat codes to unleash the full ending ? (if there's one) I was also very disappointed by the very short ending of the game. There must be a longer one, maybe if you have collected all those "secret cards", dunno...

Pff, that's just virtual displacement mapping added, not the biggest difference in the world really.

@ AMD's HD 2900 XT's performance
Quote: | Okay, so here's how the verdict goes. AMD-ATI has had a very rough time launching this product. It was delayed and delayed and then delayed again. Obviously when you have 700 million transistors in a product, yet don't see the performance you expect, you try and solve tweak things. Now let's be fair here. Everybody was expecting and hoping for a product that would wipe the floor clean with NVIDIA's GeForce 8800 GTX/Ultra. That's just not the case. Performance wise the Radeon HD 2900 XT has a very hard time coming even close to these product in a lot of scenarios.
It is what it is, and the HD 2900 XT performance wise ended up in the lower to mid part of the high-end segment. Sometimes it has a hard time keeping up with a 320MB 8800 GTS, and in other scenarios we see performance close or equal to the GeForce 8800 GTX. Now that would be weird if we all had to pay 600 USD/EUR for it. AMD knows this, and knows it very well. This is why, and honestly this is fantastic, the product is launched at a 399 MSRP. Now I have been talking with a lot of board partners already and here in Europe the product will launch at 350 EUR; and that's just golden. |

Will probably need better drivers, NVIDIA has quite a advantage there and they recently released new Vista drivers that increase performance even further but it also seems that the latest ATI alpha drivers increased performance by quite a bit for the testers that tried it before they published those benchmark results.
(Ofcourse it's not ment to compete with the Ultra/GTX either since from what I understand it's meant to compete with the GT/GTS - atleast untill the XTX model arrives.)
EDIT: CoJ will have a DX10 update? could be a good reason to reinstall the game I suppose, but it's only increased visuals and I already completed the game so I probably won't bother that much, could be a good benchmark for DX10 cards though.

Call of Juarez was perhaps one of the best gaming experiences I had in 2006. I'm not much into FPS but the game was action packed when playing the preacher. The story was good, not brilliant but good enough to make me complete the game. And the soundtrack was awsome!
At least there was a motive to keep going, in other FPS most of the time it's only to find out what uber weapons the game have.

I actually like the ending and I think it was fitting for a western themed game like COJ.
