|
 |
I have no idea of which nex-gen console to get. I find it so hard to favor one over the other.
Therefore I made this list of what I think of the big 3:
Nintendo Wii
------------------------------------
+ At $250 for the consol and $50 per game, it's the
cheapest consol of them all...
- but also the least powerful. I've also read that Nintendo is the
only one (of the 3) that actually makes a profit selling the
console itself.
+ OK, I hear you! It's all about FUN not HARDWARE. And yes, that is appealing
to me. What it boils down to is haveing fun, I agree...
- But I am genuinely interested in games. I want to see them "move forward".
And yes, I want better graphics, physics, animation, resolution and AI!
- It's a "next-gen" that isn't "next-gen".
+ BUT oh yes. It is intuitive and something new. Just like the DS.
- Also, about price: you know that the new controller contains two pieces;
The wii-remote itself (in the right hand) and another (in the left hand).
Most games uses both...
These two pieces are sold separatly! The wii-remote itself for $39.99
and the other piece (I don't remember the name) for $19.99.
Thats a total of $60 for a second controller.
- And then you'll need one or two classic gamepads (don't know the price)...
+ I love the idea of the new controller!
- But it may have its problems. Waveing it around for hours. Accuracy.
Many games WILL exploit it poorly.
+ yes.. Nintendos own games are awesome!
** Thats 5 positives and 6 negatives **
Microsoft Xbox 360
------------------------------------
+ It's been out for almost a year; starting to get a impressive library
of games. Both retail and Xbox Live Arcade.
+ The price is fair. Everything about the 360 is fair
- But to be honest, the console itself is a little boring. I don't know...
It looks fair, plays fair, feels fair.. But it doesn't have that "WOW" factor.
+ I think it's a safe buy. You know what you get and the hardware is good
quality.
- But to make harddrive optional? why? everybody though the XBOX 1 HD was a right
move. Why go back on that?
- The 360 doesn't have enough good exclusives compared to Sony and Nintendo...
+ Though there is a BIG chance of that changeing this time around.
- Micropayment is going a little out of controll. Don't make us pay for
every little silly addon. It feels greedy.
+ Bugie, Rare and Lionhead? hmmm, I don't know.. good i guess.
+ Xbox Live IS good. no question about that.
= DVD only? good or bad? hmmm.. dunno
- The japs hates Xbox 360.
** Thats 6 positives and 5 negatives **
Sony Playstation 3
------------------------------------
- Whats going on Sony?!?! Your PR is shit. my god it's bad.
+ But the PS3 specs looks awesome....
- at a equally high price.
+ The PS3 got the best exclusives and the japs loves it.
- Stop the hype and lies
1/2- Blue Ray = Slower reading speed. high price, lower production and delays.
But more space! I'll give it that.
+ They are innovative.
- But that tilt sensor thingie and no rumble? nope... doesn't work for me.
- What about online? I don't beleive they can match Xbox Live. not at this point!
** Thats 3 positives and 5 + 1/2 negatives **

Loving my 360 aswell. I was blown away by the graphics in Just Cause, and that hasn't happend for a long time.
It's strange, because sometimes i'll be playing Saints Row and just enjoying the game, then i'll stop and look around for a second; At the massive draw distance, the huge amout of high polygon models with full ragdoll on screen at once, how beautiful the cars look and just think 'fucking hell' this looks amazing!
Now it's like I take everything for granted in the game, such as a car driving towards me at high speed, I hit it with the rocket launcher and it explodes fantastically as it flips over my head, pieces flying everywhere and the flaming bodies smashing into other civilians setting them on fire too.
I'm worried that maybe i'm getting spoilt by this, that i'll soon expect every game to meet these standards. The new consoles are going to turn us into a nation of graphics whores! Resist it!

Another big plus for the 360 is in terms of firmware modification, there getting better and better at making hacked firmware and you can play backups fairly easy. Noone knows what the wii and ps3 are going to be like for hacking and backing up games.
Id say that 1 point alone is enough for another 5 +'s for the 360

wii & ps3 will be pain in the ass and expensive to hack as previous gens of them were

I like the 360 but cant say I am wowed by it. On the PC, there have been several games that have blown me away with their graphics, so maybe I have become jaded. Another reason could be that I play my 360 on my 19" LCD monitor which is a splendid accessory for PC gaming but is kinda limited for the 360 because of its size. I wonder if I will see an amazing difference if I try it on a 37" HDTV???
