Go to the Relic forums to get some advices (cf. http://forums.relicnews.com/forumdisplay.php?f=146 ), in skirmish what i try to do is to grab the maximum of flags from the start, moving from each to another with three or four groups to achieve that and leaving only a group of pionners/engineers at my base to build the infrastructure, then i block every accesses (bridge, passes in water, whatever) to secure the territory that will be the backbone of my production and build defenses in the remote flags that can't be protected by denying access thru these kind of natural passages.
My production is then becoming so huge and well defended that i can barely wait to build up a huge army that will, when i decide it, wipe my ennemy off the map.

This game is pretty well optimized. I just had a go (and got my ass kicked by the ai - nice challenge) and it ran very smooth. Funny thing is that the auto setting set most to medium and some to high. I changed most to high and left only some on medium and enabled PostFX and some other features and set the model detail to max. It still ran very very smooth, no stuttering at all. The auto setup seems to be very conservative. And now comes the fun part. After done playing I returned to Windows and saw I forgot to set my CPU to dynamic, it ran at 2*1GHz instead 2*2GHz all the time. And during play, I never noticed. Even with 1GHz Dual Core and NV7400Go this was very playable. I normally force my CPU to 1GHz because I don't need more for my daily work and that way I can throttle the fan etc.

I don't know about you but I've got a very good PC and this game just run like shit.

Core2Duo E6600
GeForce 7950GX2 (not SLI but work like one)
2GB Ram PC2-6400

Tried to max out gfx, got like 7fps. Tried default settings, get like 15. What is the magical setting I should lower to have acceptable fps? And why does fraps always tell me it's running at 999fps?

Something must be really fucked with your pc.

AMD 4000+, X1900XTX, 2gb Ram - runs übersmooth (60+ fps) at all settings set to the highest possible. The only thing I have turned off is AA.

Upcoming PC games 2009 and onwards

Well I don't know whats wrong with your setup/settings then. The tests I conducted took place on:

- Core Duo 2*1GHz (forgot to open things up to 2*2GHz)
- 2GB Ram
- NV7400Go

I maxed out everything for a test too and got something like 10fps. Then I worked my way up from what the auto setting suggested and ended up with settings either on high (about 75% of them) and medium. And this is very playable and fliud. Maybe the SLI Bug affects your system too even if it is no real SLI.

People with SLI setups seem to have troubles, there is a SLI patch to come, try to disable the SLI through the nvidia software if that's possible with this kind of card. maybe consult Relic forums.

So I was playing the game in mp and I was moving my men around and when one of my squads voiced their acknowledgement I thought:" Hey I know that voice!" later I checked the credits and I 'did' know that voice, it was the voice of Crispin Freeman Very Happy
For those of you who don't know who he is he's done a ton of english voiceover for anime's
for instance he did the English "Alucard" voice in hellsing and he played the captain of the "Sylvana" in the anime series "Last Exile" and a ton of other stuff.

Some on tweaksrus.com forums report a nice fps improvement on CoH with the latest nvidia 92.91 beta drivers :
e.g. quoting "Dmavericks",

xg 91.48
Average Frame Rate: 20.9 fps
Maximum Frame Rate: 60.0 fps
Minimum Frame Rate: 13.1 fps

---

92.91 Stock
Average Frame Rate: 33.3 fps
Maximum Frame Rate: 61.0 fps
Minimum Frame Rate: 18.7 fps

Maybe give it a try.

Prolly some driver / game compatability issues for your 7950GX2, it runs smooth as silk for me most of the time, everything at max. I do notice that its right on the edge sometimes, this game is demanding, but reasonably so, not like oblivion Laughing Laughing

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 RAM: 4gb Kingmax DDR2 800mhz Video: Asus GeForce 250GTS 1gb Sound: Asus Xonar.

If it is during the intro movie, the game use divx, thus you may have a broken divx codec.

Some report that the Ultra setting is actually enabled by the game, even if it is -seems- selected in the options, only if you have a 512Mb VRAM gfx card.
Maybe someone with both a 256Mb and a 512Mb gfx card can confirm it here.
