sots-1.1.1-retail-patch.zip

does the patch actually work properly with the clone release? the clone i saw said to use securom loader, people here with the reloaded release claim securom loader doesnt work with the patch.

the loader works fine with the patch. with the clone that is.

So I guess we'll have to wait for a cracked patch then...
damn. I wanna play this game now!

So how long did you play to get there, don't get me wrong it's a nice game, but it just feels somewhat slow.

Clone -> Depends on the system. I have had most clones work fine, but some don't. Like this one.

of course the clone works past the turn 3 bug... its a CLONE. a little bit of knowledge and most of em will work fine.

thats the point of it

what i was saYing is the reloaded crack screws up at turn 3, and i cant use d-tools4 on my new system, it doesnt like my sata HD so i dont have a choice. i have always only played clones in the past

Reloaded.

One thing that span me out was the fact the RLD crack is called sword.exe, but the exe in the directory is called Sword of the Stars.exe?

I can assure you that i felt the same way at first, but once you play a few games (the tech tree is random, you wont get all the same techs every game)..
You will notice how much tactical depth there really is! You got your cloaks, shields of different types, better armor or speed, turning ratio, you got your diff engines, speed in combat or/and longer range, you got your extended range modules, command modules, the entire AI research deal in which the AI might even rebel and you gotta research a computer virus to kill it ^^
And you got tons of different weapons, no 1 superweapon, all are good in one way or another (except maby the first 2 Wink ). And then there is the mobile refinerys, the strip miners, the whole hiver gate gameplay, huge difference in playing against or as the hivers, or humans with their railroad node technology..

And in combat there is very much tactics, i just ran a few undercover hit&run's on my enemy Hiver's homeworlds, cloaked ships in order to sneak in and kill the gates, itll take him a total of like 80 turns to recover from that Smile
Then you got the fact that exactly where you click on an enemy ship is where your ships will attempt to fire, individual guns can blow up, destroy the engine, central module, or bridge according to what the situation requires.

Theeeen we have the whole planet genocide thing, you can get attacked by random slavers which will launch pods onto your planet that basically contains slave traders starting to wreck havoc down there ^^
Or you can send assault shuttles with marines down to the enemy planet, or just nuke it with anti-matter missiles, or anti-matter torpedoes or something. Or cut trough it with the beam weapons Very Happy
Or build the plague thing and send a pod down filled with the plague Very Happy

And then we got the huge number of random encounters, just as i had finished the sneak attacks on the Hivers my homeworld got bombarded by literally hundreds of asteroids Sad
Sure, 30 defence sattelites can shoot fast, but not fast enugh Sad
340 million people died Crying or Very sad Sad .... Very Happy Laughing Very Happy

As you play along you will notice how big the tactical depth really is, trust me =)
Man i love this game.

I've been watching this thread for awhile, now that I've had a chance to play it, I can't say I care for it too much. But then I suppose I'm picky. The voice overs just don't work (for the humans anyway) they sound like a bunch of meth users, a bit too eager to deliver their lines. Heh. Everything is a little too cartoony to even begin to take this seriously as a TBS title.

Combat is decent, but not especially nice looking. I have it set at 1280 x 1024. I didn't see any AA settings, just TF in options. At least it does run nice and turns are processed quickly. While I can appreciate the realism in the ship designs, they just don't look very pretty. They certainly aren't aetheticly pleasing, and the vibrant colors are a bit odd looking. I think I must be missing an option for quality here somewhere, because combat looked a hell of alot nicer in the gameplay movies. 3D maps really aren't my thing, I like a nice clean display as opposed to all these stars floating around.

Maybe it will get better as I get further in. Or a smaller galaxy to reduce the tedium. Build ships, colonize planet, move on until you find an enemy (or enemies), eliminate enemy. You win. Sometimes simplification is not always a good thing.

so i've been trying to get clone to work

windows 64 bit, dt4 - does not work, says emulation detected with or without sr7 stop, if using asr says

A required security module cannot be activated.
This program cannot be executed (12004).

curerom does not even open the game, swords of stars.exe is loaded in task manager but no application is visible.

windws xp regular, dt4 - does not work same as 64 bit for everything

dt 3.47 - does not work with asr, works ONLY if you enable all emulation options and use sr7.stop, and possibly set compatibility to windows 2000

hope this help

ok i finally figured it out. now it works everywhere in dt4. what you have to do is run asr.exe from a directory OTHER than where sword of stars.exe is. if you do that it works perfectly

doesn't matter WHAT I do, rename the .exe, set it to windows 2000 mode, run sr7stop, emulate everything, getting stoned, cursing, biting.

it STILL dies after turn 5.

so that's it - i give up and wait for a cracked patch. no, wait, a WORKING cracked patch!
