So far, there're two seperate "teams" (suppose that's the best word) that have released firmware for the Hitach, Birdy and OPA.
OPA seems to be the more trusted source of firmware as Birdy's flashers tend to be either not fully finished (hello bricked drive!) or just very buggy in getting the job done.
I've used both and with no noticeable differences in media recognition, freezing, or anything for that matter, I would personally use the OPA 2.1 release.
If you are the waiting type, OPA should be releasing version 3 sometime soon with all that stealth bullshit or whatever.
