|
|
Hey ppl!
There are some installers floating around for DevHook. I grabbed one of them yesterday (DevHook 0.46 Ultimate Installer), but I haven't run it yet. Have you guys tried anything similar or do you install DevHook manualy?

I installed it just now..
But some ISOs freez (After splash loading screen). I've tried MX_Vs_ATV_Unleashed, but it doesn't load. Why is DevHook so hard getting installed right? hmmm..

i always used pre-made devhook dirs, where i just copy the crap across to the msroot and everything is ready for use
2 days ago i finally decided id stop being a newbie about DH, and installed it myself, using a proper jap 2.71 update (actually wasnt that easy to find...) and it all works great... best of all, i have the proper O as accept not that sissy yank X as accept, which is great!
so yeah, installing DH yourself really isnt that hard. plus it means u can set it up exactly as you want it.

I use .44 but I think its because of that which is causing games like WWE and splinter cell to crash *sigh* I dont like the green + blue on the devhook menu though. It shows up the scratches too much and makes me want to cry.

1 --- Devhook installation ---
Download Devhook 0.44, Devhook 0.45 or Devhook 0.46 then decompress the archive and copy the content of the MS_ROOT folder on the root of your memstick. Unsure about this ? See the FAQ, Q04.
Download the 2.71 update EBOOT.PBP from the Sony website or from any trustable location.
Put DATA.PSAR in the root of the memory stick.
Restore your PSP to the default settings (from System Settings under XMB). Run the included devhook installer on the psp (its label is "Devhook firmware installer" under XMB), it will install FW files on MS0:\dh\271\ . When asked, answer yes about Flash1 installation.
From Devhook package copy again DH folder on the root of your memstick: it'll overwrite some text files.
Place the decrypted and decompressed 2.71 reboot.bin in ms0:\dh\271\reboot.bin.
Devhook doesn't handle the initialization of the 2.71 Flash1 (will fail booting the 2.71 firmware) even if you installed it with the supplied installer. You have to provide a working (means already booted with into emulation) Flash1 folder from a lower than 2.71 firmware. It can come from another firmware installation (same method as above but with another update EBOOT.PBP, eg 2.5 and in this case the required Flash1 will be into MS0:\dh\250\ folder) or from your own PSP Flash Memory (more about this in T03).
Check MS0:\dh\271\flash1\registry\ folder. Delete init.dat file if present. If you already have booted the 2.71 FW and windows can't delete it, try with IR Shell's file manager.
Create an ISO folder at the root of your Memstick, the game backups (ISO and CSO) have to go inside it for Devhook to use them.
You may have to replace dh/271/flash1/registry/system.dreg and system.ireg with the ones from a lower FW install or with the ones from your PSP flash1 folder, in case the first boot of on an emulated firwmare fails by freezing at XMB.
Unsure about installation ? Most common problems should be covered in FAQ and Troubleshooting.

Still unsure about installation ? Full packs ready to use are available, use Google to find.
Sorry about the mess, but the info is there

Just look for something that is like .46 FULL, and then all you do is extract, no messy firmware stuff, all the firmware is included for you.
So easy!

I agree sToOz. But many "FULL Packs" contain bugs, annoying Icon-screen music and so on. The Ultimate Installer V.1.1.1 had a few problems, I don't know exactly what, but the author confirmed problems on his forum.
If you follow the steps above, you'll get a clean, stable installation.
...ah well... same same : )

um, well i cheated a bit... theres one step u have to do, which apparently requires you to upgrade then downgrade, so didn't do that bit, just leeched THAT file from a full pack im not quite ready to risk that upgrading crap.
anyway to grab the firmware, find the eboot for the 2.71 upgrade that you want (i used google to find the jap version i wanted, but the american version is far easier to find)
anyway copy the devhook pack to your memory stick, and everything should end up in the correct place (ie you get your dh folder in the ms root, and the launcher programs in the psp/games dir
then you use a program called pbp unpacker, run the program, load up your 2.71 eboot, and extract the contents of it. find the 'data.psar' that you extracted, and put it onto your memory stick in the root. then run the installer on your psp (if you did the above step and copied the contents of the dh program onto your memory stick, the installer should be found where you usually find homebrew apps (under games) - run it, and it will extract the flash files into the correct 2.71 dh flash folder. thats all there is really. just answer yes to any flash install questions. it wont upgrade your psp, just copy the flash files to the dh folder.
you then need the reboot.bin file, which you need too (apparently) upgrade to 2.6 to get it i believe. i dont mess with THAT stuff, so i just grabbed that one file from the dh full set, and put it into the 2.71 dh directory.
um yeah thats all there is really. then when your done you can start looking on maxconsole for some cool dh mods... personally id stay away from custom firmware and autoboot stuff, unless you arent fussed about potentially screwing up your psp, or are very confident in what your doing, but some of the stuff like the ability to reboot to 1.5 without having to actually cold boot ur psp is quite cool.
question: did anyone else here have a hell of a time getting the screenshot mod to work? i had to do all sorts of crazy crap before it would work for me...

Yep. I did it exactly like you chiv. But why did you use the JAP firmware and not the US version? Are there any advantages?
PS. I haven't installed screenshot mod.

There are versions that have mods included, but I've always seen those packs with them in the title, but there are packs that say .46 FULL, meaning just a clean devhook and a clean pack of firmware, not sure what you're looking at that gives you bugs?
I've never had a problem with the clean FULL packages.

i picked the jap version because pressing o makes way more sense to me than x.
also, i have an original 1.00 that i used a jap update on, so my psp when its in 1.5 uses o. was getting WAY too confusing having to switch between O and X depending on whether i was emulating or not.
so yeah that was my main reason for doing devhook myself, so that id learn something, get an appreciation for the program, and also have my own jap version.

Here is a little question, didn't wanted to create a new thread so anyways, when games are played from a memory stick; does the loading times and the battery life improve compared to playing from an UMD disc?

Some people say that, and some say other games take longer.
You won't be disappointed by any means though.

Loading times yes, battery life i don't know. I did encounter some more lag when using devhook 0.4x in 222mhz. Used to play burnout legends with umdloader without problems, i have some occasional lag when using devhook.

What about overclocking your PSP to 333Mhz. I guess that would reduce the battery life but other than that are there any other disadvantages?

Waiting for my PSP bought it from eBay for £121 1.5 version, is it a good deal with next day special delivery? And also bought a 2G Pro Duo for £27 includes shipping etc. I have the 0.46 Full and the ultimate installer. Will try the 0.46 Full tomorrow.

I'm using devhook .45 with a gui mod and pspbrew to install the firmware...90% of the time i just use the custom firmware to boot straight to 2.71...Never had a game freeze or crash upto now...
I suggest doing what Supino descripes up above to get a clean-stable install of Devhook..

I'm using a 1.50 PSP with 2Gig MS Pro Duo and devhook 0.46 with wipeout fusion umd and most games stop loading after the logo screens. The PSP just goes black and the memory stick indicator stops flashing. I've tried GTA:LCS, PES5, MGS: Digital Novel and few more that i can't remember. ALso neither of the NFS games worked (rivals and most wanted) All were clean isos. Any clues why this happens? AM I doing something wrong?

Sounds like either a bad fw dump, or you're devhook settings are set for firmware you don't actually have on your stick.
Clean isos should work with no problem. Even about 90% of unclean isos work.
