After updating to 1.2 you don't need to overwrite anything except movies. You just create ENG subfolder in strings folder, copy global.res from english version there, copy voices from english folder directly to root of your to-be-english installation, and copy over the eng.xml folder. Then, in options you switch language from german to english and everything is working in english, audio included. However, after 2-or-so jumps, somehow locale file goes out of sync. Why is this happening is beyond me, but it leaps forward one record (but not everywhere - friends/enemies etc on target list for example stays correct.)
On the side note: hyperjumps aren't the only cause. Reloading save game over and over yields same results. |
It might be with the global.res or it might not. My guess is that xml file that contains all the audio file information and includes things like length and size of file, isn't properly set to the english files. And as such, something screws up. I'm thinking the screwup with the audio thing leaks into the text thing.
Maybe I'm smoking though and totally off. Anyway its just an xml, and I think I can replace the radio stream voice parts, maybe that will work, maybe not. Actually, I just thought of a good way to test before screwing with it. I'll put the german audio back and see if it works then, if it does, that was the problem, the mismatch. If I still get the text corruption after a couple jumps, its definately not the audio mismatch to the xml. |
Of course u've to copy content of radio(stream). i don't get probs with hyperjumps or text corruption or whatever, almost finished the game. U making it urself diffecult as it isn't.

Didn't copy over any .xml file so i think the failure is there. copy radio(stream) and all the movies and global.res and ur ready. Afterwards u can update the game and use the global.res which was uploaded by MaxPowered before. Then play as written before. i don't need to switch the languages in options it's already there. ( english one )

Could you give me a little more info Accountbroken? I overwrited all the existing german files, and run it like that. Your saying you the patched english stuff into the german version, use the same file structure, and load it up and switch languages in game through the game options menu?
If you've got that working, I would be interested to know if you just straight copy the stuff into the german version or do you make a directory structure that is different then the existing one?
It sounds like the best way to do, if both versions can coexist and it's just a matter of switching the language ingame. I'll guess I'll give it a whirl and see if I can figure out the directory structure myself. I'll post back later.
To whoever said it was useless to patch to 1.2, it really isn't. The main point of 1.2 is to remove the ingame CD-checks. Granted, that doesn't mean much if your using an image on your drive, but every bit counts if your running on a slower system.

Okay well. I'm making progress. Sort of anyway. I tried the standard replace the german 1.2 files with english 1.2 files. Same garbled text after a few jumps or after a few loads. I replaced all the german .cpr files with the english ones, after that, nuked all the config files and saves it stores in My documents. Restarted, interface was in german, selected english in options under language, restarted, same problem. I poured through the registry to find any possible entries for DS1 but nothing terribly meaningful in there.
I compared all the files between the two versions looking for possible variations that would indicate a problem file. Again, nothing significant between them that I hadn't already replaced. It's worth nothing that TAGES is NOT uninstalled if you just uninstall the english version through the shortcut. It's files remain on the system, unless you run the setup routine on the english DVD. That will completely remove it. Not much difference, but it's good to know anyway.
Finally, I just copied the whole damn updated english dir (except the .exe of course) onto of the german version. Rebooted, in case something might have been left behind after the english uninstall. Nuked all the config files, mounted the mini image, hid DT 3.47 with VCDhide and launched the game. The text problem was resolved after that. However, now I'm getting that damn jumpy graphics and texture corruption shit, which if memory serves happened before when ProtectDISC kicked in. I'll keep poking around some more.

i kept the original game structure. This is exactly what i did: Installed the german version, copied over the movies and radio(stream). Then copied this file http://rapidshare.de/files/30197710/ds_3dadd.cpr.html to main dir. So i u would mount the mini-image now with prot-stop and daemontools 4 the game would work. But i updated the game to 1.2 beta. Then copied the file which was uploaded by MaxPowered: http://rapidshare.de/files/30033765/global.rar.html ( global.res of english version 1.2 ) to C:\Program Files\Darkstar One\strings\DEU. So I kept the whole game structure original. Then mounted in daemontools 3.47 or alcohol 3105 used virtual cd hide and could play the game without text errors. Only in the first movie when the game starts subs are 2 secs behind but it's only in the first movie. Afterwards I didn'
t get one text error or what so ever and already finished the game

seems all good crackers go on a mysterious vacation when they get their long sought for challenge, its easy to seem good if you let tools do all the job aint it.. |
With all the whining about reloaded as soon as one of their cracks is flawed, I would understand if reloaded couldn't care less about getting any of you a prober crack.
And whats with the "vacation" remark? Crackers actually have real lives alot more important than making cracks for your pleasure, just cause some teens are too cheap to go buy a game your obviously want bad. Cracking is just a hobby, not a proffesion. Although some of you sound sometimes like these guys work for you!!
Enjoy what you got from reloaded already, and if it's not enough, go buy the game. A crack will come out IF they feel like it and have the time.
Grow up!! get a life, go out and enjoy the weather or whatever. |
hehe easy now, what i meant was when something is easily done we see in it their nfo's alot of braggin and smack talk about others, im not only talking reloaded but the scene as a whole compared to 10 years ago, but when something thats actually tough to crack pops up all the cocky kids seems to be gone and none of the big groups dare to even try it cause they seem afraid to loose face, back in the days there would be a race to get a proper crack out just for the glory, now it seems theres alot of kids with cracktools that others coded that of course like to smacktalk others until it gets a lil heated
i couldnt give a shit what they do and what they dont, but if they gonna smacktalk they damn better perform like it too
and again this critique is NOT aimed just for reloaded
and the "vacation" comment was a "ok so now when something hard is out the loudmouths are gone" kinda comment

Copying WalPostFilter.wex causes "jumpy graphics", copying walplugspace.wex solves text problems, but causes screen to go black randomly - alt-tabing fixes it, but it's still unacceptable. I wired up working global.res, which doesn't cause any text problems, but some strings needed to be truncated unfortunately. After lots of playing around, I gave up and started playing again - after few hours spent I think the game is playable even with truncated texts.
http://ofca.pl/global.res - here is the working file. Have fun. |
Yeah, your right. Deleting the WalPostFilter.cfg solved the jumpiness. A new one wasn't created, so it must be stored somewhere else.
Brokenaccount: Much thanks for that global.res file, the game is working perfectly now! Finally I can start playing. I don't like problems without solutions
Seven and a half hours of work and it's finally working. This reminds me of the old DOS game days. You got two games when you bought game back then. The game itself and the game to get the fucking thing loaded in 640k of memory. Heh, Heh. Well, I hope it's it a good game after all this work
EDIT: Or not. The game works for a few minutes, then the textures blur up. God damn game.Time for reinstall #26. I'll try your method exactly as posted Broken. Maybe that will work.
EDIT 2: I followed your instructions to the letter Broken. Graphics problems are solved, but the text problem has returned again. Did you leave something out? Something must be different.

I've been following this thread from the start. And now I'm really just thinking: it costs £17.98. I have the Reloaded-release. NO WAY I'm even gonna START trying to get that to work. Just reading this thread makes me dizzy. I'm buying it. Ascaron 1 - Reloaded 0.

There is, if you goto thier news page/front page it has an announcement of 1.2 patch in german and a link there. I.e. they haven't put it on thier updates page (probably because its still BETA which is why I dont want to install it yet)

And german. As I've said, twice. On this page.
I guess I'll quote from thier page:
The name of the file is:
Darkstar1_2_GER.exe
Notice the GER in the name? That means GERMAN.
Hint: When you go to the darkstar main page, you can choose german or english web page versions. Thats how you get the differant files.
