Trust me on this one.. what you have done is in essence illegal.. but no one will give a shit. Simple as that.
Hotmail and other Internet companies have to much on their plates dealing with real hacks, pedophiles and DOWNLOADERS! to care about you going into an email account and looking at some emails.

True, but i dont think the person owning the email can do anything about it. Think he will have contact hotmail for it.

its ilegal but i doubt there is any real evidence unless hotmail log every ip that logs into there site which is doubtful.
i doubt they would even consider it serious enough to bother pressing charges even if they could proove it was you, unless you stole some personal info and tried to do something with it
if it was an isp email account then you would probably be in deep shit

Couldnt you tell the cops (if they ever reach you) he gave you his password?
Anyway, from personal experience I know 9 out of 10 times when people threaten to do something on the internet, its just a threat. If he really contacted the police, why would he tell you(or even before contacting)? I dont think he would.

I didnt really do any harm, and i gave the guy his account details back etc told him to change the pass. But what im wondering is he says hes gonna take it further. But im unsure on what he can really do about it since there is no direct law im aware of that says *do not guess other peoples gmail account passwords*. :/ |
this type of punishable conduct matches the "private correspondency" norm. so it is punishable, under most modern legislations. but, the motive you had, may change the figure, from a crime, to a "missunderstunding" or even, to a right.
other than that, is that gmail is a PUBLIC service.
nice case anyway.
