New multiplayer info:

and isnt this just a little to silly?

Getting the right balance is perhaps the most pertinent issue. While new players may think it’s grossly unfair that all they will have is a single pistol to compete with other players with some serious firepower it won’t quite be like this. Firstly new players will be able to steal others machines/vehicles. Secondly, those players with higher ranks won’t be after the new players as they will have very little to gain from killing them and more so be jeopardizing their entire team. Players with high ranks will get the greatest benefit from killing opponents with a higher rank level. Based on this it’s likely that you’ll be fighting others with a similar rank. |

When I first played hl I thought there is no story at all, just plain maps. When played FC the story was integrated into the game and was reasoned.

HL/2 did not have that strong story elements compared to for instance Far Cry. In any case, what John Carmack said is a load of crap. But then again his games has no story at all

I am not talking about if the story element is cheesy or not, but to what degree and what complexity the story elements has. To that effect, HL/2 has gone no further than Far Cry for example.

Stop taking those drugs please. In HL2 the story is actually integrated into the gameplay, you're in control all the time. In FarCry the story is told in cutscenes. Thats a giant leap for immersion. Besides which HL2's story is far more complex and open to interpretation.

HL2's story? What story? It had no story. That was really disappointing in HL2!

Oh Noes! A story you actually have to be observant to understand. Next time I want a little picture book with a few words that my mummy can read to me because it's too much for my little brain!
Jebus, people expect to be spoonfed everything these days. Just because a story takes a little effort to figure out it's suddenly non-existant.
Check wiki if you really believe theres no story. There the more observant people have summarized it for you.

Let's hope that it will not be as boring as HL2, which was an eye candy over-scripted crap.

Oh Noes! A story you actually have to be observant to understand. |
Observant? You can't be observant about something that's just not there. Who is the Gman? Who does he work for? Is he alien or human? Where was Gordon in the last couple of years? How did he come back? How did he get on the train he woke up in at the beginning of the game? Why did the aliens invade earth? What was Dr. Breen's motivation to collaborate with the aliens? Was Dr. Breen alien or human? Are the combine soldiers alien or human? Why was Gordon selected to save City 17? Why are the aliens using these headcrabs that attack everyone (even their own soldiers)? What do they gain when the headcrabs "zombiefied" a person? Why are those green aliens who were enemies in the first game now friends of the humans and see Gordon as their Messiah?
You can't get any answers to these questions while playing the game. All you can do is speculate and I don't call that a story. Maybe there were some direct answers in Episode 1 (which I didn't play yet) but we were talking about HL2.

dude those are unanswered questions generated by the story to make you want more... they are not actually the *main* story

I dunno if they were stupid, i would just write that they must have been either well corrupted or couldn't have told their true feelings after all the waiting and generated hype, but i have just gave you my humble opinion, i have bought HL2, played it, finishing it in a week-end, and quickly deleted it.
A 'game' where you have just the freedom to follow an over-scripted corridor with pitiful loadings every two minutes and something like three species of enemies is indecent, IMHO.
Thus it was a nice technical demo to test my new sets of gfx card drivers, actually nothing more, thereafter i had to comfort me and my wallet with the bundled CS-Source (sic)...

Oblivion has an open world and is great. Dark messiah will follow a path just like HL-HL2. Do you think it will not be any good ? Why people loved first HL? HL2 added some more things into gameplay like physics puzzles. The game was not only kill-choose a path-go. You enjoyed the goodies and waited proceeded with the story. And the story is not only a kidnapped person or a dark lord to beat. New things come, more questions arise that make you think many possible meanings. You might follow a single path but you get a lot of meanings. Far cry had open areas/paths but I believe you know the whole story.

I guess different people like different methods of storytelling. Some enjoy discovering a story for themselves, others want a simple cliched story spoonfed to them by forcing it into their faces at regular intervals.

A storymode should not be optional in a game. You should not have to go look at newspaper shit on the ground and walls to get a tiny bit of silly information about the story.

hl is a game which you have to pay attention to details, you're involved, part of the story
it's like living a movie
answering those questions is what you do in the game
