I followed the instructions, patched it up to 1.2 but I'm still getting text errors after installing the global.res I got from here for 1.2. It glitches out after a jump or two. Anyone else having problems?

Can't bother with this crap anymore, better wait for a proper crack. What i don't understand is why it isn't nuked on nforce yet, clearly it's not properly cracked.

I may have the beginings of a solution to the text weirdness. There's an .xml file in the game folder that references all the sound files and tells the game how long each one lasts. This is differant from the .xml in the english one (namely all the radio stream voice folder files listed in it, the rest are or should be the same). I'm hoping that if I can edit it and changeout all the old references for the new, the game will then work properly.

I'm planning on trying this tonight or tomorrow, and if it works, I'll see if the xml file can find its way to rapidshare or similar.

Also if it works, one could presumably do a similar job to convert the french version to english.

So in other words, the strings file only does the text in the game, this file SHOULD control all the audio if I'm understanding it correctly. As for the videos, they are all the same anyway, just differant audiosteam integrated into the .bik files so that shouldn't affect anything.

Well, if you apply german patch 1.2 then it creates a folder strings/DEU/global.res. So I think the "copy global.res into strings/original" method is flawed when applying german patch 1.2.

EDIT: Tried the Dtools 347 + VCDHide + strings/DEU/global.res method on 1.2 and it worked. WEE! Now i have the latest version of DS1 to play with Very Happy

Of corse I patched the RLD version to 1.2 too before I copied the files.

So what exactly did you do?
Installed the reloaded version , installed 1.2 then copied over the global.res file
and used VCDHide before starting ?

Hmm. Interesting. I tried replacing just the global.res in the new path that 1.2 makes as you state above, but that didn't solve the problem. I didn't patch up the reloaded release prior to copying over the files, however. Thus the key must be in one of the files that is being copied over from the patched reloaded release. No idea what though. I tried replacing the global.res inside the dds file as well, but that didn't help.

I've installed this damn game too many times already, I've got 1.0 working and that's good enough for now. I'll wait for someone else to post a fool proof guide to 1.2 before I mess around again. Sad

Please explain your workaround.
Are you working with the reloaded version or with the german one?

Thats why I mentioned I used version 1.1 in both the german and english. As I've repeatedly said, 1.2 does very little as a patch.
Also, I would prefer not to use a beta patch, I dont want to take the chance that save games under that patch wouldn't work with a future patch.

because nuking on nforce would require the editors to nuke it. stick to real sources for nukes. dont worry if a game is nuked here or not.

if you had read prevoius posts you woudl have seen that i had already figured this out and posted the global.res file from the updated english 1.2. but thanks for the rehash of info.
now again getting this to work is beyond simple.
Update the english version.
copy the needed folders,
update the german version, copy over all the necessary crap,(if you look in the folders its damn common sense where the global.res should go.)
mount the game with the mini image and alcohol 120% or dt347,
hide the drive with vcdhide.
start the game.

I doubt grabbing a version which don't even have the same executable code and pasting some files from another version is a good thing to do,.. it may seem to work if you are lucky but I'm sure you would tell a programmer there about this and he would start laughing since it's clearly not meant to do that.

it doesnt hide dt4. have u tried hiding alcohol or dt347?

Using the Mini Image gives me an error while mounting "Ascaron.scripting.dll is not a valid windows disk image. check your etc.. " Do you guys use this Image? or you just use the normal ISO and hide that. I tried both (even with that Mini Image error, and it wont work.
Updated to V1.2 etc etc.
Yup got DT 3.47 and VCD hide 1.0.0.4
Any suggestions or is it just me that is dumb as an ass.

Crap...I dont know whats wrong then. Just read on GCWs forum that there is a cupple of guys with exactly the same prob..."Ascaron.scripting.dll is not a valid windows disk image. check your etc.. " Well I guess its back to version 1.0 then, at least that works here with the German crack.

The language translation doesn´t work for me ( with patch 1.1 and 1.2 ). Everytime after 2. hyper-jump it mixes up words. Any suggestions?

Which german release you have? I have the OPIUM INTERNAL release and it came with the mini image. That one did work properly for me.

As for being captain obvious before...sry guys...didn't had the patience to read 10 pages of posts Razz

For those who'd like to know how I did it:

0) As I stated before I have the OPIUM INTERNAL version so I can only confirm that the OPIUM release works.

1) Install the RLD version and patch it up to 1.2. Do not use the crack.
2) Copy the necessary files int a temp dir using the same folder stucture as the installed version. The filelist is posted in this thread for multiple times and I'm not going to repeat it here.
3) uninstall the RLD version.
4) install the german version.
5) patch it up to 1.2
6) copy the files from the temp dir into the german installation. Make sure you copy them into the right folders etc. Use common sense.
7) Uninstall DT 4.03 and install DT 3.47. Mount the german image with DT 3.47.
8 ) launch Virtual CD Hide and hide your drives by right clicking on the VCDHide taskbar icon
9) Launch DarkStarOne.exe
10) Wait a bit until it validates your DVD and you're ready to go

for the 3rd time. you DO NOT have to uninstall DT4. just mount the game with alcohol 120%. leave DT4 in.
