 Publisher: Tri Synergy
 Developer: Chaos Concept
 Media type and size:
 Genre: strategy / turn based
 Release date: 21 August 2006
 Description:

  	  | Quote: | | Game system
 UFO:Extraterrestrials is a turn-based strategy game.

 Main features
 1. Advanced Artificial Intelligence developed by experts who graduated cybernetics
We have set our aim on the development of an advanced artificial intelligence for the alien units, that guarantees a real challenge for every great strategist.
 2. FMS Free Movement Standard - destroy anything you want
Free Movement Standard makes a unit's movements very real.
For example, if your soldier can't get inside a building due to aliens blocking all the entrances, do not worry. Go around the building and use a proper weapon, for instance a rocket launcher, to make an entrance of your own.
 3. Third side
The third side in UFO:Extraterrestrials includes the police, army and civilians. The police keeps eye on everything that is happening in the cities, the army maintains it's bases and civilians mind their own business, such as shopping, dating, harvesting crop in the country, mining in the mines, or just trying to save their lives...

Its either going to suck or cheat, which amounts to the same thing.

					| that's pretty much what I think of what the game is gonna be like in general. Either gonna suck ALOT or going to be good alot. But looking at the rap sheet of the publisher, it tends to be more of the first option than the later.

					| I only like the first XCOM games. Everything that came afterwards is pure shit IMO, and this looks like its going to be shit as well. Shame.

					| Well the in action screenies looks really crap but the base building / eq screens look quite nice.
I really liked the basebuilding / managing part of X-COM.. Wouldnt mind of someone brought a bit focus back on that.

					| I still play the first game. Its not about the graphics but the gameplay. If they manage to catch it i'll play this with shitty graphics. Im fed up with crapy console ports. I want real PC games and Xcom one of them

					| as every tbs, you will have a grid, otherwise you wouldn't be able to control the units. It will be a toggle grid, or as in JA2, the mouse pointer will be a grid. This game will take the genre a step further from UFO EU, from what i've read in the forums there. You will battle out on 2 planets this time. Maybe the graphics are not to the standard of a fps, or even to Silent Storm(the camera is fixed), but for this kind of game, you wouldn't want too much eye candy to clutter the screen either. I think it will please the x-com fans out there, but i won't say anything for sure until i see this game released. Oh, and i wouldn't bet on that release date either, it seems that "summer 2006" has a very broad time margin to the CC guys. But since there's no other game like this in production at this moment(except that Ufo Afterlight, wich imo will be even worse that Aftershock, and it will be real time, heh) all we can do is wait for it to be released

					| I hope this game manages to do what they set out to do...the game is very very close to what X-Com was.
 Destructible enviroments (EVERYTHING *drool*).
Geoscape works very similarly (9 states now, and a new planet)
 Research, very similar.
 Base building, very similar.
Interception of UFOs is half new (its more interactive now, you give your interceptor(s?) orders).
Same turnbased controlling of soldiers as in X-Com.
Deployment of units in a mission looks very similar, from what i could tell from screenshots.
You are still funded by the states of the world like in X-Com.

Basically, it looks like the developers set out to not mess with the formula, and just copy X-Com, making the basic gameplay the same. I'm really really hoping they don't mess it up, cause it could be the best X-Com clone...ever.

 Looking forward to the 21st.

 Edit:
 Protection is "Not Starforce" btw.

					| The graphics look ok to me, functional for their purpose.

					| Apoc works for me in compatibility mode (95 and 256 colours) and using something called vdfsound or something like that. I like it but it's a little too complex and fiddly for me. I prefer the original X-Com and it's a great play even today - truly a testament of gameplay over graphics any day.
Does anyone remember Abomination btw? I really liked that as well.... more action but I loved the tactical/strategic aspects as well. Oh why is there so few top down games these days...

					| Looking at the screenshots of this it seems fine. I'd prefer a zoom out though definately. The biggest problem is the colour contrast and the lighting. It's very haphazard if you know what I mean? | |

UFO:ET is beeing tested at this moment however the AI in tactical missions is still in the development. Work also continues on ufopedia research descriptions. Each description takes about 8 sentences in average. By now about 30 descriptions have been written and 6 of them were translated and edited by a native english speaker.
