Didnt see a topic ever made for it so forgive me if it already exists. The game sadly never really got that big of a hit, I guess due to lack of promoting? Anywho it was released by money. curious if anyone else played/is playing it. And yes I know it's an old game.

You pretty much build a base in the same way you would build a house in the sims. From there you can invade other countries and steal money and so forth.

I hated the way you had to handle security, that ruined it for me. You had to constantly have your base on yellow alert otherwise none of your people would be armed, except if you do this they begin to complain that they can't sleep, but if you let them sleep then you get invaded and your guards get owned.

The concept owned but Game suffered great issues :

1. Allways on security mode yellow or red , or else none wears firearms .. stuiped thing , just remove security levels .
2. dump ass AI .
3. no skirmish .
4. over powered enemies .
5. the whole "world" interface where u steal money and get stuff SUCKED big time .
6. trap system 2 complicated and never worked like you wanted it 2 .

and so on and so on ... really anoyying how a group of bad guys could wipe all your men couse they are so stuiped that they attack 1 by 1 , with no guns even ...

I've been addicted to it quite alot. Some stuff they coulda spruced up. I agree with the security. Aren't gaurds supposed to carry guns to begins with? Other than rent-a-cops? Anywho, they should make a sequal or something. Would be nice to see a better version.

looks possible they might make a 2nd one...

I was totally addicted to this game. Played it till I had to move to the second island. But I was constantly bothered by those *&#$% superagents at that time and I couldn't destroy them...each one has a weak spot but no matter how long I tortured them I couldn't defeat them...I should google for that subject again and maybe play it again.

Edit: How to defeat the superagents:

I just realized how useless security is. I had a team of gunner get in my base, set the alarms on red, everyone gets a gun, they get noticed on camera, and no one still does anything. I think mabye 2 guards got up to go fight them but that was it. gr.

i liked the concept of building your base and setting traps and shit, but indeed the AI issues what somewhat of a letdown.

but it was a decent game nonetheless.

Loved this game, played it all the time when it came out. Modded it quite a bit too, made military minions always carry weapons, reskins and such.

One of the most original games ever imo, loved it and played it a lot.

The thing that makes it more fun is first of all you need to play it a second time as the game is not simple and second there is a mod or unofficial patch that ups the cap of minions you can have, it's annoying how super agents cut down your men and you are always short, much more fun to not have to worry about do I have enough biologists to research something etc.

it was very annoying at first because I didn't use that many traps and didn't have a good base layout. I then read some guides on the game and realized there are many tricks you can use to decrease the amount of micro you need.

one thing is to have many entrances to the island, but only one that leads to your base. when agents land on your island they will be met with many entrances. For the fake entrances, build a hallway and connect it with another fake entrance, and then put some traps there. As a result very few agents will actually stumble into your lair because if they choose the wrong entrance they get killed by the traps.

traps are a MUST if you dont want to micro. at the end of my game on the 2nd island I never had to change the alert level/use guns because my guard minions could just beat up the few agents that actually make it into my base. I had 5 fake entrances with really good traps as well as a huuge casino I built outside to keep the tourists busy.

the building part of the game is really fun, make sure you read some base building guides on the internet before you start though. If you have a poorly designed base, the game is not very forgiving and becomes almost unplayable due to the excess amount of micro you need do in order to keep things running.

I love the ambiance/visual style/story of Evil Genius. It's Austin Powers meets No One Lives Forever - simply awesome. That said, the lack of control with regards to your own minions is one of the games greatest flaws as well as strengths. You have to plan around it - epic when it works yet agonizing when it fails and everything falls apart.

I can't count how many times I've restarted the game trying to find the perfect base setup that was both practical yet believable. I don't think I've ever beat the game - something always goes wrong.

How does Good Old Games work - do they let you download a retail unprotected ISO that's pre-patched? I never bought the game and feel like I owe them that much - better late then never - STEAM download speeds can suck me.

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

It was a good game that could have been a timeless classic, like Dungeon Keeper (the designer was mentored by Molyneux, and it shows).

It was overly linear (only campaign, no skirmish, no sandbox), only 2 (TWO) maps in the entire game, and really easy once you see the way they intended the game to be played. Same mistakes they made with Republic.

Not even super agents casued me trouble. All I had to do is place a few huts around the islands (no need for multiple fake entrances, just huts) and place psychological traps into them (that pop-up target was best). They waste their time trying to get in and when they do, they are left stupified by the trap. No heat, no trouble, just blissfully ignorant enemies.

When they happen to waltz into my base, I tag them for weaken and my social minions swarm all over them until they are all dumbed down. They never make it too far into the base, where the real inciminating stuff was held. After that, they are led out of the base and left to rot on the sun until they decide they seen enough (nothing) and leave. Only kept a skeleton crew of military minions for world map missions, simply becasue they were unnecessary.

The only time I might have needed them was when I got overzelous with my missions and accumulated a lot of heat and soldiers came to kill me off. But even then my henchmen were more than enough to deal with them.

So all in all, it's a good game but a wasted opportunity to make something truly special.

There were units that carried guns constantly, it doesn't make sense for everyone to have a gun.

The higher "Tech" units always carried guns (3rd+ iirc).

The only thing I could say I disliked about the game was that it refused to keep my resolution, always reverting to the one below it.

It's an AWESOME GAME!

Because everyone reads these amirite.
