And just because you have that build, doesn't mean the final build wont include the optimised models (plus that screenshot doesn't prove anythin really)

Code: | Quakecon is currently in Day Two mode, and while a ton of stuff has come out of the conference so far, I think the biggest news so far is a large, 38 minute long presentation of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars by representatives from id Software and Splash Damage.
Several sites have posted previews and news on the goings on at Quakecon so far. AMDZone has one such preview, as does Gamespy. The most impressive preview of course is from Planetquake, which offers as I said before a large 38 minute presentation of Quake Wars. The demo is on a map called Valley, and is demonstrated by Kevin Cloud of id Software and Paul Wedgewood from Splash Damage. Do yourselves a favor, download it now. It is a very impressive showing for Quake Wars.

No those graphics do look pretty terrible except some texturing in the background. That flying thing on the left looks horrible. Especially the windows.

Ah well, I'm not a fan of gfx, I'd still be fine with the old gfx of the first half life. nothing more than eye candy, at least this way developers and what not would be spending more time working out gameplay than spending half the time trying to make it look nice. Hell give me teh gfx of duke nuken 3d anyday

i have to disagree.. with all my hate to EA i still consider bf a great series and i don't want to see it die. besides there are many popular "bf-like" games (take the UT games for example). |
How the hell is UT BF-like. Those two games have pretty much nothing in common, apart from being shooters. |
have you actually played bf2 and ut2004?

It looks like C&C games brought to an fps perspective. I didn't read much about this game but I liked what I saw in the screens. However, I'm very selective on online MP fps shooters because there are shit plenty and only a few worth the fun.

it'll be free.....you just more than likley wont be able to play it online
I'll actually buy this if the demo is good. If that RTCWET is as good as people say why not give them some money for making kick ass games. Not like we really have any companies left that know how to make games. |
Well the actual multiplayer of RTCW was almost identical to ET. It didn't require a lot to make the switch, but i'm glad they did.
Will this game be online only or will there be some form of single player mode too? I don't think a full-on style single player 'with bots' would suit this game at all. It really does require some smart thinknig which only humans can do. I think a moh style single player would be good but I know it wont happen I still want some kinda single player game though, and not a training / introduction :/

Count on the multiplayer only... Still if they want to make this a hardcore multiplayer experience then they should put multiplayer on the highest priority.

I liked the bots from CS Source, they were quite the challenge...not too smart though, just decent target practice.

Video lasts about 38 mins
A bit of developer-humour throughout the video
Up to 12 minutes:
-Overview map and class selection screen
-Live demonstration of the game
-Build-system (looks like Battlezone in a way, only in 3rd person)
12 mins:
-Explanation of megatexture
-Geometric texture distribution
I don't see the difference between this and the way terrain is handled in BF2?
15 mins:
-More gameplay descriptions
19 mins:
-Covert Ops class
-Run Speed
-Hacking
23 mins:
-Vehicle physics (fewkin great)
-Shooting off individuall wheels off vehicles
28 mins:
-"How the game got going"
31 mins:
-Back to vehicle physics
33 mins:
-Field Ops class
-Artillery
That should be enough reason for anyone to check out the video. Imo the game looks (oviously it's blown up on a projector, it will look better on a 19" pc-monitor or otherwise) and plays great already, can't wait to play it!

OBVIOUSLY!
But some form of single player needs to be used. When I mentioned the 'human only' thinking such as. protecting a player, healing. Giving ammo / med packs to each other. Things like that would be almost impossible to get right with the bots.

Well its so obvious then Im quite sure you can figure out why they exclude single player...
As they mentioned in the video the engine was optimised and recoded to support a network rather then a single player experience. Also cannot see the purpose of a single player experience in this game at all.

eh, in BF it was a good way to get used to the game and how it works. I mean lets say the game is out for about a year and some new kid comes to play. He's not gunna learn very well getting shot in the head everytime he comes back in. Think of it as Counter Strike. If you never played it in the past or when it came out, dont bother getting it.
