First off, I'm not going to pretend I'm nearly as well-informed as some of the people who lurk here on the history and current events of the scene. It doesn't take a genius, however, to see the demand for 1080p xvid movies, and while the current methods of ripping them (frame-by-frame screenshot) leave much to be desired, it can't be long before some guru writes a script that automates the ripping process, even if it would take 4-6 hours a movie just to rip the video info and much, much longer to compress.

Some ideas for released movies would be:

- a 4.7G xvid/divx avi file that would fit on a single blank DVD with a high-bitrate encoded movie
- As the process gets easier and more holes are poked in next-gen formats, a standardized release system will emerge, much like the xvid scene
- As drives and media become more affordable, a full HDRip scene will emerge
- The resolution on the 1080i movies will either be shrunk to 1600x900 or thereabout, or they will be kept at 1080i.

Please post your guesses on the future (if any) and demand of the HD scene in coming months.

Blu ray recordable format= $18 for 25gig with 2 Burners going up to 4x for $1,000. Dual layer will be out soon and will store 50gig's
HD-DVD = $18 for 15 gigs with no burner released yet but will probably be around $500 but will only record at 1x with no talk about dual layer yet or speed enhancements.

Lots of HD content out but no scene releases also no uniformity yet either. You can get Xvids/TS's/Divx/H264 and all that shit.

Isn't HD supposedly the better format though from all the early reviews?

yeah but compare the original matrix dvd (concidered supreme quality when dvd's were new) to the recently released restored version, youll see a HUGE difference in quality - what im getting at, is its still VERY VERY early days... only a small amount of both formats full potential has been show - expect over the years for the quality to improve significantly for both hd and bluray

id be hesitant to say which is better right now, because it will take some time before we'll see the most that each of the formats has to offer... so while hd seem to be better at the moment, its probably only down to how much effort the studios are putting into them, not format limitations.... it'll take a while to see which format is the better one.

i don't know - but the length of the movies won't change - so you can still get your xCD-(hd/bluray)dvdrip - and you're fine..
