what Gamecube titles are must own/must buy games, have I missed any? Smile

I brought the Kongas with Donkey Konga. Bit expensive but really funny to play. I am a fan of over the top peripherals though; I have the Maraccas for Dreamcast.

If you are bored of gaming this is the way forward.

That's why I mentioned it. I would never recommend a normal FF. Not even to my worst enemies. I hate that turn-based crap! Wink

Tales of Symphonia should give you a good 60 hours play time.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody, im gonna try and pick up some of those titles (2nd hand looks like my best bet) - Chibi Robo looks like the sort of game that would really appeal to me, as do Geist, Paper Mario and Tales of Symphonia.

FF:CC is a title which has me confused and I think part of that is to do with a review I watched back when it was released. They focused so much on the 4 player GBA link aspect of the game that it put me off buying the game. The way I looked at it was I work alot so getting 4 people to sit down and play through a game just isn't as easy as it used to be, plus I don't know anyone with a GBA nor do I own one myself - im gonna shop around and see if I can pick the game up cheap/2nd hand though.

I'd also been planning on getting Donky Konga funnily enough. One of the stores is doing it new with the bongos for £17.99 which is a no-brainer purchase to someone like myself thats heavily into rythem games.

I get the point about "moving on" RMFX, thing is though its not every day that a Zelda, Eternal Darkness or Metroid Prime comes out - next months 360 games look nice but it remains to be seen if any of them are going to be hailed as classics of their generation, it goes without saying that they are definetly the new games that have me hyped at the moment.

cheers Very Happy

This is very true...and why I am and have always been deadset on getting nintendo's console. Even if the 3rd party support sucks like it did with n64 and gamecube, you still know there will be a number of classics that you wont forget. I play alot of 360, and there are a few fun games and even more coming soon but most are still forgettable compared to the games you mentioned.

Anyways, with wii it seems this is more true than it ever has been with zelda:tp and mp3:c coming at launch and mario galaxy and ssbb coming soon after. And who knows...sadness may just be as good as eternal darkness. I am hoping that with nintendo back on the scene, bigger and badder than ever, there will be more and more games that will be instant classics. And i hope it will revive the gameplay that has become so stale and monotonous, to me at least.

I honestly believe though upstart that despite what we both agree were machines that have had their fair share of instant classics, Nintendo can't continue to fall back on that.

In the Wii what I want to see alongside those instant classics is a console which has the lifespan that it deserves. I mean the N64 had Goldeneye, Super Mario 64, without doubt the best version of ISS by a country mile, Conkers, Mario Kart, FZero, Ocarina of Time and Turok 2 (which was pretty amazing for its time) plus the rest but the playstation still outlasted it by some amount of time. Sony continued to release games for it, remarket it as the PSOne, added a console with one of those mini clip on screens that I keep raving about and generally beat Nintendo in the marketing and splashing cash to woo developers department even though I personally would say that the N64 was the better machine. Sony also added backwards compatibility between the PS1 and PS2.

I feel it was a similiar story with the Cube. Both Xbox and PS2 are arguably still going strong with some good titles still to be released and they both had a very strong start to the year. The Cube is nowhere to be seen even though specs wise it sits somewhere between the Xbox and PS2, most shops don't even have a Cube section anymore - the thought of this happening with a third successive machine even to a big Nintendo fan like myself is a mild turnoff.

I couldn't care less about specs, I know that they'll deliver on the games front but the lifespan factor leaves a big bold question mark...is this going to be a machine that suddenly dissapears off the shelf whilst the other machines continue to enjoy support from publishers and developers? Sad

I think Wii will suprise us all by being the first really successful Nintendo console since the SNES. The DS is proof that Nintendo are doing something right now.

Something that really interests me about the Xbox 360 is that people are saying (with cross platform games), that the difference in graphics is negligable unless they get plugged into an HD system. Since the 360 is difficult architecture to program for (a tripple core system), and the PS3 is going to be even more difficult; it seems to me that indeed Nintendo were very correct to comprimise and make a machine that was going to be better in spec than current gen consoles but not too powerful that it isn't easy to develop games for. It seems to me that maybe all the fuss about muscle and graphics in next gen machines was a total missunderstanding of the market.

I can see the Wii being a platform that small games developers are going to embrace because of these reasons. This could lead to some of the most innovative new games coming out on the Wii. If this is the case we all know that the big developers will follow on to try and take a slice of the pie.

Very interesting times.... Very Happy

The DS proves nothing. Nintendo was always very successful in the handheld market.

I think you missunderstood; This Article explains - http://ce.seekingalpha.com/article/13173. I was reffering to the fact that the company has money to invest (something that no-one thought possible 2 years ago).

I was wondering whether to get a cheap gamecube second hand as I got rid of mine 3 days after launch coz i thought it was too kiddy, but as the machine went on i saw some real classy looking games for it, like Res Evil, Smash Bros and such, so i reckon i'm game for a cube (see what i did there?)

What do you mean Starshine by "I'm BUYING the games" ?
I didn't know there was any other way on the GC?

I've never really cared for the gamecube since i took mine back to the shop so I have missed everything to do with it. I take an interest in most console stuff but I was under the impression it hadn't been chipped. Looking at the Nfo listing though, it seems to be the opposite.

Is it softmod or hardwired chip?

Hardwired. There are different chips available. Personally I never cared about them because you either have to find mini-DVDs that work well in your Gamecube or you must replace your case with a different one because otherwise normal-sized DVDs don't fit. For me it wasn't worth it because I had bought already many Gamecube games and there were only a few good ones left. :-/

Weedos already answered the question but I emphasised BUYING because my console isn't chipped or modded and I also wanted to highlight just how important it was that the games were top notch and worth spending money on.

I say go for it and get an old second hand console russ_beer. I see them selling for as little as £35, second hand games are a mixed bag pricewise. Argos were selling the Konga and Smash Football bundles for £60 but I'd imagine that offer has now passed. Smile

Nice one, sounds like you got a good deal there russ_beer, im surprised you bought XIII but presume it was part of the bundle/deal.

RE4 and Metroid Prime most certainly are classics, christ knows how many magazines and sites gave RE4 GOTY awards. Even when lumped in amongst the best of PC and the other consoles it still came out with the award.

Not a swapper myself russ_beer, I had an unfortunate occasion sometime back when I really needed to raise cash and sold on alot of really good PS2/Dreamcast games and DVD boxsets for next to nothing and ended up really regretting it (swapping feels much the same to me) - its feels almost like selling memories especially if your the sort of person that has pretty decent taste in games leading to alot of classics lining the shelves.

Let us know btw if there are any shops/websites which are especially good for Cube games, at the moment im still looking around for some of the games on this thread and its hard going finding stores which even stock them and don't charge what amounts to nearly the same price as a brand new Xbox 360 game. Xiii was only £4 and i always wanted to try it but it wouldn't work on my xbox!

RE4 is good, and playing Xiii and mario sunshine so far, the others will get a going over very shortly.

The stores i went to for the games are: Computer Exchange (www.cex.co.uk)
Gamestation and Chips. (www.chipsworld.co.uk) all prices differ but Gamestation had some good offers, and the best choice. 4 for £20 on older titles, 2 for £20 on newer stuff.

aah, I remember you posting that certain titles wouldn't work on your Xbox in previous threads we must have different gen modchips because I have XIII and it works fine - had previously completed the game on PC though.

Thanks for the info on the stores, I already use gamestation and chipsworld never tryed cex though so I'll have a look at that site and see what I can pickup.

yeah, beta mod chip so some of the awkward fookers wouldn't work.

If you are still not finding Geist Starshine, Play.com have it spanking new at £14.99 free p&p
