|
 |
I recently got a premium system for a fairly good price. I tried out a couple of games, GRAW and Kameo. Frankly I was disappointed by what I saw. The fault lies with me though. I didnt heed the very good advice that its not worth it if you dont own a HDTV. My TV is ap retty able piece of electronics, 37" Magnavox that has been with me for quite some time, and frankly I really dont feel the need to go HD right now. I barely watch any TV and I am quite content with the quality of viewing experience with DVD movies. So now I have a choice spend more money and get a HDTV just to play on the 360, or sell off the 360, use the money to get a better vcard than my 7800 GT. I am now totally confused, much more than when I had to decide if I wanted to buy a 360 or not.

Sell it and get a Wii...haha...
No, sorry, don't want to start any console flamefests. It's a good piece of kit, the 360, my brother has it and it is great on a HDtv or dlp projector. Right now there might not be many games out that take full advantage of it, but if you wait they will come. So either a HDtv or a widescreen lcd monitor might be a good investment, prolly the monitor since hdtvs are still high. I guess we were lucky in finding a rear projection 60 inch 1080i tv some store was throwing away, heh.
Just whatever you do, don't sell it off and go out and buy a 7950gx2 or whatever. DX10 cards will be out in a couple monthes so wait till those come out.

A better video card than a 7800 GT?? You must be kidding! 7800 GT is a high end card that's more than enough for every PC game. Here's a better suggestion - keep your 360 and buy a VGA cable to connect it to your PC's TFT and enjoy HD.

Word!
This post combined with the last sentence of upstarts post is solid advice and Weedos suggestion is most importantly an affordable solution which doesn't force you into buying something which by your own admission wouldn't get used greatly.

I am kinda old school when it comes to monitors. So I still have a 21 inch Sony Trinitron instead of a TFT or a LCD monitor and frankly, I havent found anything lacking when it comes to PC gaming other than the fact that it occupies a lot of space on my computer desk. I guess the VGA cable would still allow me to connect the 360 to my CRT, so that will be worth a try. That way I can get by without any extra spending.
Anoher question, how do you guys get sound out of the PC speakers. I have a AUdigy 1 combined with Altec Lansing 5.1 speakers. I dont have optical in though but Creative is selling these Digital I/O modules that could be used. IS it worth it?

For my PC speakers I would have to use an adapter like this (for stereo sound):

Two stereo cinch sockets on one side and a 3.5mm stereo socket (where I plug in my speakers) on the other side. That would be enough for me and there's no need to have the PC switched on.

my crt monitor has a hard wired vga cable. I heard they also give a femal-female adaptor to plug the hd vga cable and the monitor's vga cable, is that right?

Yeah, you get the female-female adapter with the package. I have mine connected to a 7.1 surround sound system, and my 21" TFT and the games look fantastic. Kameo and GRAW are two of the most beautiful games out on any system so if you're not impressed by them you should upgrade to either a HDTV or a monitor.
