Could anybody that uses/has used a powerball tell me if it's any good for increasing the power of the triceps/biceps/lower arm and wrist? Websites say it is, but I want noticable results. I'm getting kind of tired of using the dumbbell. And the pushups, ugh, those are horribly boring. I like pullups, but you can't really do them anywhere except for random football goals scattered across town. So I'm looking into alternatives.

Thanks in advance.

ive got one, and i used it tirelessly for ages and it gained about 3 pounds on my foream and wrist after using it for like 6 months. Its ery tiresome and its easy to get it abovue 15000 RPM. its good for improving grip strength though, i can break bottles with my clench now lol

Watergem, with a score like that maybe you should use the Metal Superpowerball.

They're good for improving grip stength and muscle coordination, but they're no substitute for weights and I can really only recommend using them in conjunction with a workout regime.

Maybe you need to bring someone along to the gym with you so you can mix it up a bit. Compete with each other and try new exercises while the other person spots to make sure you don't injure yourself. Going alone can get boring.

I don't go to the gym, sad to say. I take Karate and Taekwon-do (although I might quit Karate and go do Krav Maga, Muay Thai or Jeet Kun Do), so I can't afford to go to the gym too as an 18 year old who has to pay for his own sports. Most of my training is done 'naturally', with pushups, chin ups, running, working my punchbag, et cetera.

I certainly agree with you that training with a partner is very motivational, which is why I often go to a field and spar and otherwise train with a friend from TKD - however, in a barren field there aren't too many ways to improve your upper body muscles. That and since that person is female, competing in most ways other than sparring (she's a second degree black belt, I'm the third lowest ranking belt there is) is really unfair towards her. I sprint twice as fast, do four times as many pull ups, and at least equally as many pushups. This isn't me bragging, because compared to most guys in my MA classes I'm just average. And when I say four times as many pull ups, you have to realise I can only do at 11 at most, which I realise is pathetic Laughing

I do however, really appreciate you took the time to suggest that. While I'm placing higher priority on developing upper arm strength and leg flexibility, muscle coordination and grip might very well come in handy too. Smeg, grip alone might work wonders for pullups.

I remember those powerballs from way back and I think they were a bit of a fad. I can’t see them doing anything for your triceps or biceps. I do see them giving you a nicely cut forearm tho.

I think if you want noticeable difference I would use the gym equipment. I find the free weights boring as well but I do have a 5 lb that I use if I am watching TV.

For myself I set the weights at something I can do repeatedly 20 times or so and do at least 4 sets of them.

If you want to see a big difference I would do heavy heavy weight and low reps. That will bulk ya up. I don’t know how old you are but I have been told that is not good for someone still in their teens.

For pull-ups/chin-ups I would U-bolt some type of set up into your ceiling at home. Just make sure you drill it into a ceiling stud. A wooden bar and some climbing rope and you are set.

edit
Just read your post about you not using a gym. I would try to use the free weights in front of the tv then.
