Don't trust IMDb ratings, there are so many kids/teens/adults who ruin those ratings anyway. Trust your own instinct.
I agree to disagree with some movies (that's the way it will always be with movies, music, games, whatever). I think Dark City, Event Horizon and The Mission are underrated movies. But I think The Island is a big pile of shit.
And I think Gene Hackman is an underrated actor.

...second half of the island was a let down, but if bay would have continued the second half in the style/mood as the first half, it could have been quite an excellent film.

I think the general IMBD ratings are decent, 25-50% of the time its over- or underrated.

The imdb ratings suck, because lots of people just rate it 1 or 10. Fucking immature assholes.

Are we talking under-rated as in poor ratings but good movie, or excellent movies that for some reason never got popular (but were well recieved by those who saw them...)?
To the person who claimed pulp fiction is "underrated".... I'm one of those people. I think it is quite possibly one of the most overrated movies of all time.

Underrated as in poor ratings by critics, imdb, etc. Was not well received by the audience (poor sales). However, it is a much better movie than people think.
Pulp Fiction certainly is not underrated, but I don't think it is overrated either. It is a very good and unique movie, but you have to appreciate Tarantino in order to like it.

Pearl Harbor was a sugar-coated bullshit remake of the superior movie "Tora Tora Tora".
