Sublime, what version PSP do you have? If 1.5, just put the .42 FULL devhook on your mem stick as indicated by the readme. So easy.
Then just find yourself a .iso, and there are tons of "iso fixes" out, so just patch your iso with ppf-o-matic or umdgen (google it).
Then just goto devhook from the menu in your PSP and load the image... so easy.
If you don't have 1.5, I can't help, I've never done any of the eLoader stuff.

I dont have a PSP but I might get one, I know someone selling one cheap. I'll buy it, use it for a bit then just sell it on for a profit. I'm not sure what firmware it is but I just wanted a guide that covers every firmware

well if its not 1.5, then you have to downgrade it to 1.5. Its possible but for someone starting out with the psp, it can be a pain. Best option is to get one with 1.5.

Well that's just it, the tutorial wasn't for me specifically I just think it'd be a handy thing to have stickied at the top of this forum. I was thinking of making one for the DS, with m3, supercard, g6 etc. All possibilites and a little go between but I cant be arsed. However if someone finds all the info (and varyfies it works for the setup specified) then I'd be willing to copy and paste and organise the guides into one handy document. for example (i'm not saying this is exhaustive but you'll see)
1 PSP Firmware Downgraders;
1.1 - 1.50 downgrade to 1.00
1.2 - 2.0 downgrade to 1.5
1.3 - 2.1 Downgrade to 1.5
etc
2 Using games
2.1 - 1.0 running games
2.2 - 1.5 running games
2.3 - Patching games
2.4 - Game fixes
etc. etc.

unwrap the game. Open the box. shove the button of the UMD to right to open the UMD. Grab the UMD game from the box you just unwrapped and opened. Put the game into your UMD and close it. Now press start.

I am getting a refurbished PSP and a GTA LCS UMD tomorrow. Hope the PSP is not 2.7+ or the TA-082 and hope the umd is not the patched version, its supposed to be used.

So in order to play downloaded games I need to upgrade using GTA and then downgrade? Are you sure? I'm pretty sure not everyone can get their hands on a copy of GTA or would be unwilling to, so I don't think this is the only way is it? :S
Aren't there pre-patched files or anything I can download and install the firmware on? What about the new dev hook? Blah so confusing.

you don't need GTA to upgrade the firmware. Upgrade to 2.6 (not higher) and then you have to use GTA to downgrade to 1.5. Did you check if your psp wasn't a TA-082?

How do I upgrade to 2.6 then? And do I HAVE to downgrade to 1.5? and it's not a TA-082.

oh wait you have a 2.5 so that new dwngrader works for that aswell. i recommend googling for a tutorial on how to downgrade from 2.5 to 1.5 but you'll need a copy of GTA for that. Try borrowing one from a friend or something (unless you'd paly it yourself).
i'd look for a tutorial for you but i'm kind of busy at work right now

The complete downgrade process is here:
Spoiler: | Yes, you have read the title right - 2.50/2.60 Downgrader. Dark_Alex, along with Mathieulh and Yoshihiro from SonyXTeam, have released the first working 2.50/2.60 downgrader. We have seen several betas over the past few days, several of which have been confirmed as non-working. However, just a few moments ago, Mathieulh released a beta version of the upcoming v5 of the downgrader. Dark_Alex is current asleep as I am typing this, and thus can not release the final version (non-beta). If you choose to use this downgrader, use it at your own risk!
The IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is full of discussion over this downgrader and we are right there, getting every bit of information for you. Now, you are probably wondering how the downgrader works after the previous attempts failed. Mathieulh says it best in the release thread - "It uses some sony libraries found in the 1.50 updater to perform the most critical steps, the logical format of the flash, and the ipl writing. See technical details for more info about how it works." The technical details can be found in the release thread.
Now, you are all wondering - "Well, how the "hell" do I use this?" Here's your answer-
The downgrade process is separated between two people, a 1.50 user and you (2.50/2.60 user). The 1.50 user must own a 1.50 firmware PSP and will have to follow simple steps to obtain some files for you. The instructions are as follow -
Before downgrading, make sure you meet the following requirements -
Your PSP is not a TA-082 (If you do have this PSP version, it may result in a brick)
You do not have a factory 2.5/2.60 PSP (DG only works on updated PSP's)
1.50 User Instructions
1. Copy the folders downhelper and downhelper% from the folder 1.50 HELPER folder to /PSP/GAME/ in your memstick.
2. Obtain the 1.50 update and put it in /PSP/GAME/UPDATE in your memstick. You may find the 1.50 update in our download site here.
3. Init the downhelper program.
4. It will dump your flash and some files from the updater eboot to the memstick. (These files are illegal under US copyright laws, so please do not distribute them in the comments or on our forums)
5. After that, the program will exit. You can now delete the updater from /PSP/GAME/UPDATE
6. You'll notice that you have a new folder in the root of your memstick called "DOWNDATER".
7. That's the folder you'll have to send to a 2.50/2.60 to let him test the downgrade.
2.50/2.60 User Instructions
1. Copy the folder the DOWNGRADER/2.50/DOWNDATERTEST if you have 2.50
2. or DOWNGRADER/2.60/DOWNDATERTEST if you have 2.60 to /PSP/GAME/ in your memstick
3. Wait for someone with 1.50 to pass you a folder called DOWNDATER and copy it to the root of your memstick.
4. Init GTA and the eLoader
5. In the eLoader menu, choose the downdater test. WARNING: the program won't output any display and any warnings, it will init the downgrader process inmediatelly.
6. You'll see the your memstick flashing. That means that your psp is being flashed from the memstick.
7. You won't see any type of output in the screen (this is for safety). When the memstick finishes of flashing, WAIT at least a minute, and then reinit your psp by holding the power button.
8. That's all. If all went right, you'll have 1.50. If it went less good, you'll still have 2.50/2.60. If all went wrong, you'll have a bricked psp(except in the case you have the modchip) Remember that you have accepted that risk. |
You need a unpatched GTA, 1.5 firmware files (either dumped or from the net), the downdater app, & the GTA eloader.

One part of the mystery solved its 2.60 and not TA-082. Now waiting for the GTA UMD to start the downgrade. Can the GTA UMD be used to run games using Devhook/RunUMD/MPHLOader. Wont it keep prompting to upgrade firmware?

Your GTA UMD looses its importance once you downgraded. When launching the DevHook app your PSP will behave like a 2.0/2.50/2.60 psp and you will be able to load GTA through that.

So the only way to do this is with GTA:LCS no other way possible at all?

No other way such as dumping a downgraded firmware on the net for others to use? :S I dont wanna have to wait a few days to go out and buy LCS before I can play some stuff properly. Do any roms / emulators work without a firmware hack (and I'm still not sure what firmware it is exactly or if it's been updated or not) I should know by tomorrow.

The firmware exploit on machines over 1.5 needs to have GTA:LCS (old version) to launch any homebrew eboots. Though im note sure if you will be able to launch it from a 2.70 though im sure it can be ran through 2.50 and 2.60.

yea but what I mean is has noone dumped the 'updater' from GTA:LCS onto their memory stick so you can update that way? Or maybe rehashed an installer so it updates then downgrades at the same time?

Nope because the firmware exploit can only be launched within LCS's savegame system. The downgrader needs to be launched through LCS no other way.
