instead of endless and pointless discussions weather this is beta or not
Here is my little review:
+ Nice leveldesign, creepy atmosphere
+ Cool weapons
+ Portals and flipping rooms are neat
+ Story is good (not great)
- puzzles are easily figured out: spirt walk here, flip room there
- indeed a little short (finished in 8 hours) Since you are more or less 'immortal' and cant really die. Leave the spiritshooting part out and add 2 or 3 more hours of gameplay
All in All: very good game. Thoroughly enjoyed playing this

lol theres like 3 or 4 rooms in the whole game where you turn a room upside down and things fall. and its not every object its like a box or two. hardly call that groundbreaking. |
is the first fps that used it , like slow time in max pain |
hah bullet time. thats back when everyone was rippin off the matrix. even tv commercials. max payne just ripped it as well. |
max payne has the bullet time earlier then the matrix

its the beta man. its just not final retail. they will have the same content. |
No, a beta would be way before the final code, this version is obviously the final code, it`s got beta tags more than likely because the source of the leak was beta tester, this was more than liely the final gold candidate before the gold master, which would mean that while not retail, it is final, which is what the group who released it said. |
plain and simple man. until all of the files are marked final it is still a beta. gold or not, until all of the content on the disc is labled final youre dealing with a beta. all of the content can be in there nothing missing. perhaps some minor changes to a readme or someshit. its still a beta not final. most people are under the assumption that a beta is simply a product around 50% done or so this obviously isnt the case. |
No, as soon as the game goes gold it is final, hence games sites stating "so and so is gold" then a ship date, so if this is the master the gold decision is made made from, that makes it the final.
I also think the group who released it know what they are talking about don`t you?

Nope. Max Payne was released in 2001, The Matrix in 1999.

That ain't the same and you know it. All that matters is who was first out with it, and that was The Matrix.

The matrix first? oh come on, if you want to play that game any body could point out the thousands of movies to progressively use slow motion more artistically. it's not important nor on topic.
i really liked the spirit walk, but faarr too often it was walk through the shield, flip the button. same with the wallwalking/shuttle rides ect. the boss fight(s) were nice and it really amps up near the end (which saves it for me).

well, the "oldest" thing I can remember that uses this technology was the rolling stones music video from michel gondry in 1995.
But if you look at :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullet_time
you'll see that matrix didn't invented it, sure it made this technology popular but in no way it created it.
ok back on topic: finished it in 7h54min, it's really short imo but the last levels were great.

I totaly agree. There was absolutley no fear involved in this game since you know that your coming back from the dead in virtualy the same position when you died. Enemies are relativly easy to kill as well. I was never sweating through this one like I was with Far Cry for instance.
Far Cry had no save game function, remember. It was Hairy!! Prey has some cool new ideas but that's about it. We're not breaking total new ground here, are we. ?
