they probably don't need to, I imagine at this point NMS is doing great financially.
5 years after the release i doubt it's selling that much..
its far better than other similar games imo... i tend to think i'm a person who likes survival sims but tbh this is the only one i've gotten into (well, apart from Rimworld).
Repeative, sure, but so is every other game, in one way or the other, this is not really better or worse. I guess it all comes down to if you gel with that type of repetition or not.
so long as they keep shitting out updates that make some noise, the game will sell a reasonable amount. not like i can give hard numbers, but i suspect NMS is doing quite well for a game of its age.

Half as many as Factorio.. which is likely still selling well.

Some more agressive animals / aliens.. The fighting is the worst part, i hope you get to fight NPC's (human-like aliens) in this next expansion. There needs to be some populated bandit camps etc.
can confirm the combat was still pretty bad last i played. the early drones are not very interesting.. and while the late game ones are interesting, you rarely want to fight them.
I had some hours of relaxing mindless pseudo-entertainment out of the game, but despite all the updates/additions and the devs' rather commendable redemption arc, its inner shallowness and the aimless procederpural structure never really rubbed me the right way. For all the problems that the initial release had, at least the ridiculous Picasso planets and miserable dick-shaped creatures offered a layer of accidental comedy
Bit strange though, usually they release a video to show what the new update contains.
edit:
Not what i was expecting or hoping. They keep doing quite advanced updates but they neglecting all the people who just wants better combat and perhaps some more interesting loot. It would be a very easy update to do in comparison since it's just building on existing mechanics.
Maybe this includes at least some more ground combat though, who knows...
Base building is not something i've ever cared for in games, i don't really see the fun in it.

I suppose they are slowly grinding to an holt on updates, they are probably working on something else anyways and less people doing the updates.

Yea the best way I can put it is, No Man's Sky is the prettiest sex doll in the world, and every update makes her prettier and more enticing.
The problem is, no matter how pretty she gets and how realistic and soft her boobs feel after the newest update, I can keep nutting in her all day long but she will never really love me.

I doubt it, it's a pretty extensive update, just like the previous ones. Update is not really correct, they're more like full scale DLC's (better than many DLC's that i've paid for i would say).
i honestly can't remember any time it has crashed. it might have over the years, but it must have been so rare that it's not something i can recall. i have like 100h played on PC (+50h on PS4 pro).
this game is so weird.. had terrible stuttering on my 3090, which obviously pissed me off... it would stutter when turning around quickly etc. Then i remembered a fix i did some years ago where i set everything to lowest, restarted, set everything to highest, restarted - fixed, no stuttering, very smooth!
i think i gave this tip earlier in the thread, but if i didn't here it is
i guess doing this completely resets something (that needs it), clears out some cache or something..
No Man's Sky Outlaws
An explosive update focusing on the underworld of No Man’s Sky. Overhauled Space Combat, new pirate underworld, pilot solar sail ships, hire wingmen, smuggle illegal goods, and pirate ship raids.
It feels like almost everything you do is pointless, repetitive, hollow.
The first hours might be cool and engaging, but after a while, there's no more 'unexpected', no more 'surprise', no more 'new' and you enter a repetitive and boring mechanical process that can be enjoyed only if you consider that you now play some form of Minecraft in space.
They should perhaps look at Terraria more imo, it's fun in a similar sense, but there's more fun loot to find for example + bosses. I don't think either of those games would really gain anything from being deep though.

So it's like the same empty, fancy-looking canvas of yonder but with lots of patchwork added? Thought they added deep content for single player.
I got it, I play it from time to time with faaar stretches in between. But never play long a few hour at most.
And its only in VR, since the only appeal to me is the free roam VR the actual content is meh. Why I only make it a few hours at a time once the VR 'ohh walk around weird planets in 3d' gets boring.

Games rarely engage me these days but when i played (probably around 2 years ago now) i think i played 200h (first on PS4 then on PC) which is extremely rare for me, there's a lot of various stuff to do, but it's not exactly "deep", but in comparison to similar games i don't think its shallow in comparison. not sure what you're comparing to exactly.
i think the ones who might enjoy it the most are those people who likes games like Vallheim and Minecraft where you build and gather stuff + people who just wants the make-your-own-adventure type of gameplay.
I think there's a lot of people shitting on the game because it's not their type of game, which i don't think is especially fair. It's not perfect though, far from it, it's why i'm waiting..
