Just get Star-Steam and download Episode 1 through it and then download "Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Preload GCF patcher" and patch the Episode 1 files and then you can play it through star-steam.

Maddox is a dick head anyway.
I think the core scene is fantastic though. Just running in and out of the light when near the top is great to see. And when you look at the core close up with it's swirls and it's throbbing. Well worth the money
One of the best games ever (no joke), and I've not played a game for this long for a long long time. I can't remember the last time I sat down for 4 hours straight and gamed on single player.

Just thought I would show some screenshots in 1680x1050 res. It looks pretty sweet on my 20 in monitor Sadly I bought my video card before i bought the monitor so i wasn't thinking about such high res but my 7600gt seems to handle it alright (except for the one water scene)

yup if you are running 1280x1024 you might need to turn down a feature or two otherwise you should be fine.
