Has anybody heard or ever played Kabaddi?
Quote: | Kabaddi (sometimes written Kabbadi or Kabadi) is a team pursuit sport from South Asia. It is most popular in South and Southeast Asia — it is the national game of Bangladesh — but is also played in Japan, Korea, and Canada. The name derives from a Hindi word meaning "holding of breath" that is often used as a chant during play |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabadi
I had a 11 am Margarita BBQ lunch party today as a prelude to the kabaddi tournament. I did the whole food spread. I have far too much food left over plus people also brought beer and coolers and left a lot of it behind. We hung out until 3pm, sunny hot day. I was one of the sober drivers.
This has been planned now for a couple of months. I have a friend who told a bunch of us about this game that all the brown people play called Kabaddi and it sounded hilarious. These guys strip down to their shorts and get oiled up by some other guy. It’s like playing tag and wrestling. When the players are running they have to say Kabaddi over and over in one breath. So it’s really funny to watch. All the oiled up hulking brown guys running around saying KABADDI, KABADDI, KABADDI, trying to grab each other. What is even funnier is how the crowd reacts, They go nuts, especially if this one move called “Kenchi” (body scissors manoeuvre) is done. There is also a flying Kenchi and that one is super exciting hahaha. The winner walks away with about $3000. There are NO women at these events. Only females were our group. Its very much heads up cuz all the guys are drinking outta their cars and try to molest you, it was fine though. We were sneaky with our booze too. I had 4 beer (not for me) in my short pockets so it looked like a had a deformed ass.
The police were there on horses. At one point the crowd got so excited they broke down the fence and rushed the players. There was about 500 people there and we were the only 10 non-sikh people. Our friend was late, very late as usual (It’s cultural). I called him at 12pm and he and his wife were still in bed. Talk about not being with the program. We ALL talked to him the night before and he told us the Kabaddi was somewhere near my house. We find out it’s actually in Vancouver. He does this to us all the time, I think he has frontal lobe impairment.
We left for a pub just before he arrived. While at the pub we told him we were at still at Kabaddi and gave him the total run around. I told him I called out his name a bunch of times but it was no use -half the people around me answered. LOL My guilt of lying got the better of me, we text msg’ed him and told him we were at the pub. He brought his wife, cousins and father-in-law with him (we shared our sneaky beer with him). A bunch of other people met up with us there too.
Here are some pictures
The Crowd
The Guy in the blue vest and tan shirt is Ujjal Dosanj. Dosanjh formerly served as the 33rd Premier of British Columbia and leader of the New Democratic Party of British Columbia, and as the federal Minister of Health in Paul Martin's government. I guess he likes Kabaddi too.
Kabaddi game. These guys are huge, I guess they don’t drug test in this sport hahaha. Check out the tighty whitey’s
People hanging out in the bed of a truck. There were maybe 4 or 5 dump trucks there. Some of them have sikh artwork on them, impressive paint jobs, and shinny wheels. It's the best seat in the house if you want to see.
The tug of war warmup.
Wrestling. After they are done their match they walk around the fence and people throw money at them. Smallest I saw was a $5. I saw a few $20's.

No- wrestling is one on one and this is done in a group. It's like tag, football (without the ball) and wrestling (Roman/Grecco {sp}) Plus the chantting.

haha I bet you think they are smallish but all the big ones will come outta the woodwork for the game( money right).
Looks like a game that would be hard to drop in because you would be outta practice and get slaughtered.
You are lucky to go to India. I would love to go there and Africa. None of the Europe stuff. (sorry all you Euro-peeps) |
I m only really going there because my gf is indian and has homes in 2 cities there. (which will make it a fairly cheap stay, plus I ve never been outside europe so I cant wait)
I ll prolly get to meet her angry ex-guy who s seemingly planning to kill me with his thugs
(he´s from a very rich and influential family there, sucks for me).
I just hope I dont get bitten by mosquitos or even worse, water snakes.

haha, yea i know many of the hindu families and even more so the muslim families tend to go to extremes sometimes to protect their "family honour" andsome my gf has told me about stuff like that happening to some ppl.
the situation here isnt as bad though, mainly because this guys family was always opposed to him being together with my gf since she s catholic and he s hindu.
so basically they wouldnt give him any kind of support in this case, they d even rather be on my side than his, because that would secure the family honour in the long run.
the only prob could be he getting together some of his personal thugs/friends and I dont really have anyone there i know, but my gfs dad apparently has pulls in the police there so I really doubt I ll get into trouble. My life is very boring right so I just wanna go to goa and experience one of these supposedly craziest rave parties on the planet.
oh and i m not indian, i m a croatian/bosnian living in germany.

Kuja you think asians are small? I think your exaggerating a little there not all asians are small just like not all black guys have big tools |
Well I m not saying all asians are small, but definitely smaller at average than europeans.
I ve seen some near 2 meters indian dudes, but most of indian/chinese guys I know are around 175.
Well I guess in a game like this there would be predominantly tall guys in it, so I take back my statement
