Ok I just bought an Opteron 165 but I'm wondering if I made the right choice to upgrade now because my system is still good enough to run the games out today.
I'm thinking of building this rig for gaming and probably some graphics work in due time I was wondering if anyone can recommened a Mobo, I've been thinking of a DFI Lan Party NF4 SLi? anyone have any experience with this board? also I'm not up to speed with the current crop of Graphics cards so can anyone save me some time and give me a few recommendations?

I suppose one of the reasons I decided to upgrade was because in BF2 I've been experiencing system lag and it would get really bad after a couple of games, im guessing it was probably down to ram more than anything else? anyway I suppose the REAL reason is im getting ready for Unreal Tournament 2007

That setup allows me to run all latest games at highest settings (except Oblivion). I have been told if I add another gig of ram then I will be able to run oblivion on full.
I highly recommend getting the 7900GT if you are looking for a new card

Yes it was mine but I sold it to a mate at work for £50, I already had my 9700 pro in its box for a long time now and decided to use that instead afterall I did buy it for something like £90 back in the day I want to sell any of the cards I bought on an ebay shopping spree a while back speaking of which I still also have a 9800 se that I could do with getting rid of lol.
Steve-O 2004 Thanks for the suggestions yes mate I definantly think I'll have 2Gb of ram in this thing games are just too demanding, I just did some reasearch on that card and its around the £200+ mark to be honest I'd rather buy myself a 360 than spend that much on a GFX card

If you dont plan on running sli just save yourself some cash and get the DFI Ultra D NF4.
The dfi boards are great but a little expensive so i would only buy one if you plan to be overclocking a lot, otherwise look for some cheaper nf4 boards.
Opteron 165 is a great chip and you should be satisfied with it.
As for the graphics card if you dont want to spend £200 on one i wouldnt really bother spending lots on other hardware as gfx will be a bottle neck especially in ut2007 when it arrives.
Maybe the old 6800 series cards will be ok for what you want as it at least has ps 3.0 support but it will become old pretty quick when next gen games arrive.
I would suggest getting another brand of motherboard. Sure DFi are great if you take the time required to really configure them.
The first batch of DFI Lan Party NF4 SLi was not very good at all. The first week you had to spend clearing CMOS and testing settings all the time before it got stable... If it ever got stable at all. The never revisions are better but not good enough IMO.
Also they are mostly for extreme overclockers. I would suggest getting MSI or Asus instead.
The MSI K8N Diamond Plus has a superb layout and is a very good motherboard. Same goes for the Asus A8N32-Sli Deluxe.
As for CPU coolers I say you can't go wrong with the ninja. Another very good cooler is the Noctua NH-12. Either one of those will keep you happy...
The idea of using two gfx cards really was appealing to me, before I found out how much they cost nowadays!!! I think maybe I'll go without sli now.
Kosmiq my heart is set on the dfi lol plus I can get the non sli version for a nice cheap £60 however I've changed my mind for the cooler im going to use the Arctic freezer 64 pro very good for the price, also I'm thinking of making the switch to SATA as such have just bought an Maxtor Diamondmax300gb sata drive
Now all I need is some gfx suggestions and shall I keep using my Hansol 920p or upgrade/change monitor?

Depends all on how much your going to spend. Gfx card most important over monitor so make sure to put that as number 1. If you are only going to have 100-200 euro (sorry i don't have that gay key) then don't go for a monitor save and get a good viewsonic or sony lcd. I got a 20.1 in viewsonic that's widescreen and it's excellent. There is no ghosting what so ever. It runs here in America though about $350. Video card buy whatever you can afford from Nvidia. 7900gtx is the best while 7900gt is second. If your really strapped for cash the 7600gt is an excellent card. I am running one and it can handle any game.
Just an update, got more or less everything except the HD and Mobo (hd hasnt arrived yet) anyway I changed my mind about the Mobo anyone recommend me some more??
Oh I also bought a 7800gt
Btw will i need a sata card to use this sata hd? sorry im not fully clued up yet
