I do enjoy this sequel but no as much as the first one.
Matter of taste most likely as im not too fond of bigass machines and magic.
Liked the first one, back in 2003, very very much because of its
innovative solutions, realistic gameplay and overall theme
which fitted in perfectly. It all carries on well in this installement
but would've liked to see smth new, surprising.

Well deserved 7/10 from me Smile

The graphics looks like crap, sorry. The "cinematics" remind me of games 3-5 years old. I really liked RoN for the "epic" scale due to the cities and borders. Was a welcome change after all those AoE clones. AND i love weird fiction and this Da Vinci-Arcanum-style of the game.

But when i played the full version i was really disappointed by graphics, gameplay, sound...it all looks grainy and pixelated....animations are horrible, controls and everything has been there before. And dont give me bull i have a weak system, i got all you would dream of.

The only good in the game is the scenario. The rest is an artefact of former days, and not even a good one.

Edit: And just because it has "weird looking" units, that fact doesnt change anything that some units heal, some shoot faster, some are graphical bigger etc. Armies of Exigo was so much more fun/better/more beautiful. It has NOTHING that hasnt been there before except the weird scenario. Plus it does all of it worse.

Those two guys need to study the discourse, pragmatics, and how to infer the intended meaning from the context!

Excuse me, pixelated? Crappy graphics? Just because it doesnt have eye-burning HDR? A system i would dream of? Doesnt sound like it Laughing

This game even looks better than Earth 2160 for crying out loud, good graphics has nothing to do with how many metallic or wet surfaces there are with exaggerated specular maps..
After all the gameplay is what matters, but i just wanted to prove you wrong cuz its what i like to do most Very Happy Sad Surprised Very Happy

(Yay, I'm unbanned! Very Happy)

This game is more than just "solid". This game's freaking amazing when it comes to multiplayer. We finally have a RTS which is better than Warcraft 3 and StarCraft, imho.

The story in the singleplayer campaign isn't awesome like in Blizzard's RTS games, but the non-linear conquer-the-world system works very well.

I downloaded the Unleashed version and I'm able to play online with it, but I'm still going to buy an official copy once it comes out here in Europe on the 26th because I like this game so much. And Big Huge Games deserve my £. They've already released two patches in the first week after release, and they're working on more. These guys aren't slackers who only make games for the money like EA.

About as many people who cared about your stupid whining, and how it 'made' you log in again.

The game did'nt make you do anything, it was your pathetic ass that decided to waste time crying about it in these forums.

Amen AM

It sucks that 'boake' is doing almost exactly what I do...err I mean used to do and he isn't getting a "tech him a lesson" ban like I did Sad

Anyway, Rise of Legends is very good. It's exactly what I was hoping for, mainly a unique stylized RTS using the (*tweaked*) RoN engine. I love the general theme (Steamworks vs Magic, alternate reality, etc), and it plays really well. And hell, any new game that I can play on my "older than the dinosaurs" computer is an instant win in my book.

Music sucks though. Which is disapointing since I loved the RoN music.

And I completely disagree with Baluer. This game does not look anywhere near as beautiful as Earth 2160. Not even close. I'm not saying RoL looks like crap, which it doesn't, it's a very good looking game. 2160 just happens to be a fricken Mona Lisa or David; perfection Very Happy (yah I'm biased, kiss my ass lol)

I agree, don't know what they were thinking, but if you use shaders 2.0 you hardly see any evidence of shaders being in use at all, only if you look at the water. Earth2160 atleast had a proper use of shaders instead of just having them as a feature, also the environment textures sometimes look like crap in rol, whereas in earth they were always believeable, i.e mars surface, oasis etc.

But Earth 2160 had no physics (That I can recall) and I love the way the units go flying when then are smashed by an artillery shell, or the way the buildings collapse.

The units in ROL also have far more personality.

I found Rise of Nations too generic, just another historical RTS game for me. I like the fantasy aspect of this.

If I want a historical RTS game I prefer it to be as authentic as possible, like the Total War games. Smile

Yeah it does make sense, and I know what you mean. There was no aspect of the game that was flawed, although it didn't really excel in any one area either.

I remember that I was always doing fine in RoN until the combustion age started and you needed oil. There never seemed to be any in my area and a dozen turns later or so, I got my butt handed over to me. Sad

I wonder if it's still the same...

Each one of us all have the freedom of speech.
You don't have the right to say like that. (Don't flame somebody innocent. I didn't)
Don't expect me to think the way you do. Cool

Don't mind boake, he's a TAAW (Typical American Attention Whore). Whenever they don't like something, they bash it, and when anybody disagrees, they start flaming and point out their "democratic right" of freedom of speech, as if that's a universal excuse for being a jerk. Rolling Eyes

I think it's best to simply ignore what he says and soon enough he'll get bored and move back into the cave he crawled out of to post his rubbish. It's a sure-fire method to get rid of a TAAW. Smile

Pathetic. Get a life.
I just criticized this game, not somebody.
But you are criticizing an innocent person(me) only because his opinions are different from you!!!
Isn't this against forum rule? Evil or Very Mad

You didn't criticise the game, you just spouted attention whoring crap about how you don't like it to try and incite a response. Isn't that against the forum rules? Laughing
