Is anyone else completely unexcited that Bethesda is doing this game and its going to come out for both xbox 360 and PC?
We all know what a crap port Oblivion was, missing features, cruddy gameplay, etc.
We can guarentee it will be shiny, but how bad can we expect the gameplay to be?
Not to mention that real time strategies don't really lend themselves well to consoles to begin with, so I can imagine the gameplay just sucking out majorly because bethesda will not clean it up for the PC.
Paramount continues to make horrible decisions regarding this franchise.

Oblivion was crap. It was very shiny and a graphical wonder, but it played like ass. On the PC there were many basic options missing and everything was dumbed down from Morrowwind. None of the advertised AI advancements were there, it was way too easy to manipulate and the radian AI had numerous issues. Level-scaling was an idiotic choice.
I'm slightly encouraged to see Mad Doc work on it because they did Armada II. Though I'm still leery of Bethesda's involvement. I've seen publisher's idiocy ruin games before.

I'm still not excited about Bethesda's involvement. As I said, I've seen publishers ruin a game as much as the developer does. Sine Bethesda is the publisher they're likely able to put any kind of restrictions they want on Mad Doc, that can include not letting them change anything between teh xbox and PC versions or requiring that they include or leave out certain kinds of gameplay.
We all know RTS sucks on a console and if Bethesda says you get to make one game you're not spending any extra time on the PC version is going to suck.

Quote: | a) oblivion is not a port both versions were relesed at the same time |
they can be released at the same time and still be a port. When there are no changes between the PC and Xbox version thats a port.
Quote: | b)pc version is far better. |
based on what? Simply because you can get mods and crank the graphics up a bit more? Thats nothing that Bethesda did.
Quote: | c)you are about the only person i heard sayiong that the gmeplay in oblivion sucks (and i heard a LOT of people talking about it. | Then pull your head out of Bethesda's ass. I spent weeks on the forum, there are countless people there who have issues with the gameplay, they had so many posts complaining about the level scaling they were filling up the "official" thread to 200 posts everyday having to start new ones.
Quote: | crossmr: dude, you got to smoke some bad shit :/ | No I'm just not a blind graphics whoring fanboy.
Its very shiny, great graphics, the rest of the game is mediocre at best. Things were dumbed down because of the console, including the AI. There is a certain point when the graphics don't do it for me and I need gameplay to actually carry it.
http://crystaltips.typepad.com/wonderland/2005/03/burn_the_house_.html read the part by chris hecker, the part about the processor being used in the Xbox360. The AI is nothing like what they promised and its garbage. This is a direct result of the same version being developed for both the xbox360 and the PC, it was made for the lowest common denominator.
You can't even easily remap keys. If that doesn't scream console port to you, you're completely blind.

I don't give a shit about gfx either. The gameplay is great. Many quests, many different things to do. Many classes. And yeah... You think morrowind sold because of gfx?
And about the PC version so much better... heard of mods?

Quote: | You think morrowind sold because of gfx? | At the time the graphics for morrowwind were good. Compared to now, they're not.
The skill system was dumbed down, hot keys are gimped, ai is crap, level scaling is pathetic. That completely ruins the gameplay. Hell in order to survive half the time with level-scaling you have to power game to get yourself big multipliers when you level up. Those who tried to roleplay had a significantly tougher go at it than those who stood around pumping their minor skills in a back room somewhere.
Quote: | And about the PC version so much better... heard of mods? | Out of the box, they're the same damn game. Whatever the users add to it doesn't get Bethesda any kudos or make the PC version that much better.

Yes it does. People can make so much to the PC version, even own maps, weapons ++
You have some points, but i can't agree on them. But im sure if you was forced to play Oblivion for 20days you would still love it. But its something with your point of view i think.
The game is far better than any other games with top gfx. The AI aint that good always. But all the dialogs the story.. its soooo much more than gfx.
But ok, go ahead and hate it.

I did play oblivion for quite some time. Over 80 hours including finish the game.
I gave it plenty of chance. I didn't "love it".

I expect the game to be what they hyped it up to be, or at least close. It wasn't even close.
The game would have been significantly better had it been developed just for the PC and not the Xbox360. This is why I'm leery about Bethesda's involvement in Legacy. If Legacy was planning to be a PC only game, I probably wouldn't be concerned at all.
But when they're announcing a game in a genre that traditionally doesn't even exist on a console, involving a company that sold out its PC customers, I'm just not confident in the outcome.

yup have the same felings , why you ask :
1. you must play with the ini file to delete/edit those lines that dumbed this game to a console status
2.use mods to fix things like water , bow damage , sky and other shit o and don`t forget about the UI fix becoz seing only 8 items is lame o and don`t forget the moster level fix
thats why i hate Oblivion , yeah its a great game but hell you must add some much things in it to make it playable its kinda sick , and when I remeber Morrowind , you buyed this game and you don`t needed no such crap fixes to the ini and other stuff ,
anyway one thing that was frigin shitty to the hole morrowind serrie is that Morrowind was a ISLAND and on the previous games it WAS A CONTINENT that was conected to the land

Hey but you can say NOW Bethesta learned from they misstakes like they did from Dagerfall and adds userMod tolls for the users to fix the game and thats just frigin shitty asssome in some sick way

Yeah I always play games I hate for over 80 hours, and make sure I complete them. Just so when I start whining about it i'll seem more legitimate.
I think Oblivion is a pretty good game yet i've only played it for about 25 hours.
Retard.

oblivion is a marvellous milestone in gaming. some people just want the impossible cant please everyone. also the fact that this thread is completely pointless, i mean youre saying that bethesda could do anything to screw up star trek as the publisher put all kinds of restrictions on it, you could say that about any publisher, let me just whip out my crystal ball and see how the screw it up. pointless.

That's what I did. Since it was the first game I actually paid for in some time, I gave it a fair shot.

I would close this, but as nothing has even been said about the topiced game Im just going to move it into the void. You can talk about it there..
On Topic (well kinda) - I loved Oblivion, mainly because you could mod out the bits that sucked. The AI was BAD, it wasnt what was expected.. However I really enjoyed the rest of the game, it had its flaws but like I said they could be fixed easily.. Still I don't think it lived up to the hype.. still.. I think its a good game.

Any game that can entertain someone for 80 hours is already a success in my opinion.

Not IMO. Lets look at Half-Life (yes the first one). I have no idea how much I've been playing that one, I think its the game I've spent most time with during the years. That with mods excluded.
But sure, you can't compare a FPS with RPG. Playing a FPS for that long would mostly mean that I am sick or whatever in my head. However, when it comes to a RPG I have higher standards. Guess I am still believing that RPG's should be like fallout or Baldurs Gate series where I can find myself installing them again and again just to keep playing them in different ways and keep doing that over and over again. Oblivion has for me little or none replay value as I can't stand the shortcomings of the game and I never really get that immersive feel from it. It is simply lacking IMO. No real story that takes me into it and makes me go on. Instead I just played for about 80hours and now forces myself through it because of the simple fact that I started playing it and gotta finish it.

Agree with OP Ob sucked major balls. It's a console game, the levellings all fucked, the places are bland and mainstream (i loved exploring morrowind cause it was different), i mean oblivion for crying out loud? If i want hell i'll go play doom/quake any freaky even midly goth fps.
I couldnt enjoy leveling & combat in the game cause everyone else leveled at the exact same pace, I couldnt enjoy exploring cause I felt like i'd seen it all before (traps right out of tomb raider, hell right out of doom, forest right out of real life, but less polys and no smell), I loved the quests in morrowind (very realistic) but in ob they were just over the top, and what was with the ultra mainstream bad guys (mythic dawn)?
Utterly mainstream drivel, Bethesda whoring it out for money on PC Xbox360 (and soon to be ported to ps3). Not worth the nothing i payed for it.
But i still have faith in Beth for any other game that now that they've got the money to stop whoring out from ob....
