It seems like a progressive memory leak bug. I haven't been able to play for more than 20 minutes at a time with a Geforce 5900 before crashing to desktop with a d3d9.dll exception. But for me, turning off 'eyecandies' seems to extend my playable time a bit.

Buggy releases seem par for the course for Nival. The Silent Storm games always seemed a little rough around the edges.

i figure you guys did disable the AA feature on the gfx? turn all other special features of the gfx off and let them "aplication controlled".

also, try to update sound drivers.

There's a suggestion in the official ubi forums to manually edit the .cfg files in the 'profile' directory to force 800x600 and no aa, tnl, etc.

This extended my playtime by quite a bit (almost an hour), but even this 'solution' eventually crapped out and crashed me back to the desktop. Not to mention the fact that the cursive font they use is almost unreadable at 800x600 and the game generally looks like crap.

Not sure if this will help people who can't even get past the splash screen, but it seems to partially ameliorate the semi-random crashes.
