I played the second demo, others apparently share my opinion.
Exerpt
"It doesn't have particularly immersive battles or an action movie tone or a recognizable license. It's often tinny (the sound design is pathetic) and the engine is missing a lot of polish. It won't run well on mid-range computers that are well above the system requirements. The artwork is detailed and funky, but instead of epic, it sometimes looks like a sprawl of dime store toys.

There's also no naval combat (some maps involve air transport over walls or chasms, which requires some really annoying micromanagement), no cool victory conditions, and a lot of Rise of Nations' flexible game set-up options are missing. But pretty much everything else is in here, in ways that you probably couldn't have imagined. "

Yeah, the story and the setting isn't as cool as in Blizzard's RTS games, and neither are the sound effects, but the actual game is damn good. Gameplay-wise I think it owns all other RTS games.

As for the system requirements, well, you can turn down some of the settings. Hardware Shadows add quite a strain, as do physics effects in large battles. And it runs about as well as Age of Empires 3, which looks roughly as good.

Naval combat... I never like that in RTS games. Maps with split islands tend to play like crap because it's really hard to move around.

Does the full game not have lots of multiplayer game settings like Rise of Nations? I thought they were kinda cool, but I never actually used them. RoL apparently has a very good online service, with persistent ranks and ladders, so I think most people will play vanilla gameplay modes anyway.

Anyway... where's the damn release? Smile As I already said, I am going to buy this 100%, but it's only coming out here in Europe on the friggn 26th, so I'd like a copy just for the singleplayer game in advance, pretty please! Smile

Yeah, epsilon, you quote the text nicely, but you forgot the 4.5/5 rating also. Why is that? Because it's an excellent strategy game.
And the style... well, you can argue about taste for years, so to each his own I say.

Why oh why did I not include the rating but a link and an exerpt from the review?, could it be so to entice people to actually go there and read it themselves?, see if it was all bad as I seem to think? this technique is actually commonly used in newspapers believe it or not Wink

Why are some online sites till claiming May 23rd as the arrival date for ROL. I know this is the case with Europe, but Amazon and Walmart are saying this as well. It is already out in the US isnt it?

/bump, for great justice.

Please, can somebody make a release of this, so that non-Americans like myself can play the singleplayer game while we wait for our official copies to arrive on the 23rd/26th? Why's the best RTS ever, and one of the best games of the year, being ignored? Sad Sad

It's not hard at all, I made a clone of CD1 in minutes because I hate swapping CDs. I won't release my copy though. Maybe the groups are having trouble cracking the key generation method so there's no point in releasing?

This is a game you should buy for online play. So far it's pretty good online although Battle for Middle Earth 2 is still my favorite.

You know, I don't care for online play ATM because European release is 24th of May here. Until then, I'll be campaign only.

I'd take a copy with a in use key any day... well, until it's so late I already have the game from store Wink

alot better the animations are more fluid and you feel like it's "easier" somehow to control the interface, everything feels more "polished" Razz

If you want to start making sp scenarios heres a mapmaker handbook you should read
http://rol.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=45
and for mp
http://rol.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=44
make your own civilizations
http://rol.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=42
cut scene guide if your really getting into campaign editing
http://rol.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=43
scripting kit to learn how to add that 'little' extra to make your scenarios stand out
http://rol.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=41

Now go mod and keep lazy people like me happy Razz

simple to make into a dvd. just copy all of CD1 to a folder and from the other cds dont copy autorun. edit the media section in orca to whatever you want the voulme label to be. and install and play. very simple. may also have to add the 1st cd to be able to mount, or wait for a crack.

ps. for some reason the 2nd tmp file on the first cd wouldnt copy. didnt seem to affect anything tho.

So, how can one get the updates that have been released so far?
Can you also simply mount the deviance release for that means or does it only work with the crack?
Would be great if someone could check. Thx.

You need a clone to use official updates, if your not using a clone you need the 'unofficial' releases.
