IT MUST END!

I have a guy in my house who is constantly drowning the connection with BT shit, now due to him being a prick he wont listen to anything I say, thus asking him to limit the number of connections it makes is useless..

I've blocked the default ports, not only does it not work but it stops me from playing some MMO's.. either way its useless..

The packets from the router to the modem are encapsulated so I cant simply drop all connections relating to him, as none of them will, they will all relate to the router which will deal with everything else (and the router has no "block lan address" function..)..

Short of cutting his wire or setting fire to his head I'm out of idea's. That is until I get the linux firewall up and running, but I just dont have time to do it yet Sad!

I'm clever enough for no one to notice when im pulling something.. Razz If I don't solve this soon I will just have to remove his PC.. Very Happy..

I'd rather make it less agressive though Razz

Does BT use UPnP? Does it have a couple of different default port setups depending on the client?

Depends on client version and the client itself. µTorrent has UPnP and can randomize ports easily. No idea what other cliens supports UPnP, but I guess most of them have some support atleast.

Maybe you've found the solution already, but I'm gonna give my 2 cents anyway. I assume you have access to the router's config. First thing I would do is disable the router's UPnP support. That should block the port mapping in any client, thus making him unconnectable and limiting his number of connections. Problem is that after you do that, I'm not sure you will be able to play your MMOs without assigning static IPs to your PCs and forwarding the needed ports to your's.

Another way to do it is to enable the filtering tables ( I'm sure your router has them, mine is a very cheap one and they are under Firewall/Access Control). There, if you have his MAC adress, you would be able to block every port (UDP + TCP) and leave him only with port 80 open for browsing. There is also an IP filtering table, but I would rather use MAC filtering ( IP could change).

One final way would be to block specific URLs. If you know what sites he's on, you could block the tracker's adress ( on my router, URL blocking is under Firewall also).

Hope it helps you.

I already killed UPNP and setup myself with a static ip/port forwarding, however for some EVIL reason this didn't stop him.. I believe it's because the router isn't the external point, it routes traffic to a separate modem on another subnet.

The router doesn't have filtering tables, the modem does but due to the fact that the traffic hitting it is encapsulated it has the information of the router, not the client, so this is pointless.

The guy is moving out in 2 weeks, and we have come to an agreement that I wont make his PC burn if he stops downloading and tells me what he wants so I can get it 1000x faster Razz.. We will be fitting a monowall box soon, so we don't have this problem again..

Thanks for the input though Smile
