I'm wondering whether some of the bugs in this game are due to using the dutch .exe. The amount of conversations in-game I seem to be having after I'm meant to is ridiculous. I don't believe any QA department could have OK'd this game for release. Especially not a big company such as Ubi.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. I stopped playing and waiting to see if the crack is bad or release is a beta, or game itself is buggy.

Doesnt look like bad cracked to me. I LordPE dumped the securom exe and compared to the sf exe. OEP and code is same and there is no trigger present in the dlls of the game. Also it cant be securom triggers as its not a cracked securom exe. In the securom exe are at least 2 dynamic memory checks so i guess thats the reason why RLD took the sf3 exe to avoid troubles with it. All other stuff is kinda identical or codeident. Must be a real bad game. Lets see for patches.
Edit1:
Game data is identical too.

I just read mini reviews from people who have bought the game and looks like it's not a bad crack, just a bad game. Oh boy, what a disappointment. Is this really a game from the creator of Syberia? I don't think I'm even gonna play it, maybe after some patch (if there will be any).
Here is a mini review:
Quote: | Here are my findings with the game so far (i'm at the second world and already spent a fair bit of time in it ):
positive:
- breathtaking background graphics
- really nice background animations make the world come alive
- nice sound and music
- nice cut-scenes
- nice setting
- story seems quite nice so far
- voices are quite nice (similar to Syberia)
- B Sokal influence (animal sketches,...)
- the lightning
negative:
- bugs big time on my setup (Athlon 3500+, ATI Radeon X800 256Mb, 1Gb Ram). Really, never bought any game that had so many bugs. (Please note: some didn't encounter any problems so it really does seem hardware related for the most part).
- some really non-logical things happening
- i don't feel for the main character (contrary to Syberia)
- the dialog is really empty (Syberia's dialog seemed a lot more thought out)
- the characters are underdeveloped in quite a few parts and really stand out against the beautiful backdrops. The animation is "wooden" in some cases.
- looping music is annoying. At least it was for me. i turned off the music
- foot steps of Ann Smith are too loud
- not a lot of persons to meet and none of them is really interesting
- doesn't suck you in as Syberia did. The story might be good, but the story telling doesn't seem to be.
- a lot of empty screens
- the animated cursor is a bad idea. It's too slow. I missed quite a few hotspots that way.
- there are nearly no objects to look at. And there is nearly no feedback from Ann Smith when she looks at an object or uses an object. One can only guess if something has been done succesfully or not. The player gets very few hints on what to do or what the purpose of something is
- very few dialog
- the 3D "action" parts don't add anything to the game. In fact, the game doesn't even tell you what the player is supposed to do/achieve/obtain in the parts with the leopard. Moreover, the 3D isn't that well executed
- there seems to be some strange lighting on some characters in some parts (equal for the shadows) which make the characters look really out of place.
- it has an unpolished feel to it.
- the puzzles aren't that interesting. In fact, i resolved quite a few of them by pure luck (the fishing, the nut-machine,...) and i never really felt satisfied solving a puzzle.
All in all, this does feel like an empty game packaged in beautiful backdrops. I loved Syberia and looked forward to Paradise for months. In the end, i was dissapointed.
I would give it 2,5/5 so far (maybe 3/5 if a good-working patched version appears). For comparison: i would have given the Syberia series of games 4,5/5 to 5/5. It really does feel like a step back in nearly all areas except for the background images. At moments i thought: this could have been a very nice game. The atmosphere is there sometimes and so are the graphics.
Still, White Birds is a totally new company and i'm sure they will learn a lot from it. And i'm still glad i bought the game for the atmosphere and visual splendor. And yes, i'm still very much looking forward to the next White Birds game. |

I haven't seen any bugs yet, but the voice acting is horrible and the graphics are mediocre at best. The cutscenes aren't bad but the pre-rendered backgrounds are pretty blah and even with AA on the characters don't look they are actually part of the world. The lack of feedback from pretty much everything you try to do is irritating too, but I'd chalk that up as poor design rather than a bug.
The puzzles are a lot like Syberia's, so I doubt I'll be playing this game much further. What I've seen of the story so far hasn't changed the opinion of it that I had from reading the plot summary.

I finisihed it it last night and I'd agree with that review had a lot of potential but really felt unfinished, which I just don't get. This is the 4th game from Sokal after Syberia 1, 2 and Still life. All 3 of those for me were excellent. It seems to me they just needed another month or 2 to tidy the game up, and I'm sure the fans would have gladly given them that if it meant games as good as Syberia and Still Life. Very disapointing.

Sokal isn't on the credits for Still Life. It was made by the same people who made Post Mortem, the game it's a sequel to. Calling it "excellent" is a bit of a stretch too, considering it has possibly the worst ending ever in an adventure game. Not only is nothing resolved, there's plot holes you could drive a truck through that make it impossible to even speculate on what might have happened, and to top it all off they can't make a third game to even try to wrap it (because of the same Microids/Ubisoft deal that caused the game to be shipped long before it was complete in the first place).
Anyway, Still Life rant aside, Sokal's only games are Amerzone and the two Syberias.

Sorry I thought Sokal had some input in it, same engine though. By excellent I was meaning in presentation, it was well polished. Paradise is just sloppy.

And just for info dont blame ubisoft for it. they just gave the publishing label but arent involved in any develop or distribution work of it.

Ubisoft aren't involved in distribution? What exactly is it the publisher does then? Oh and they are responsible for the quality of a product they release. They could quite easily refuse to publish the game till the bugs are worked out.

Oh.. well, good games do not need protection, it was proven many times, and no, good games do not require a lot $ to develop, just some thinking, which features are good and which are not. Developers often do not listen to playerbase-feelings, and retail sales are not so good, no protection will make it better - on the contrary, worse, seeing how "some" companies put the protection "quality" over game quality, that's pretty sick. "quality" since those are nothing more but pain in the end-users asses. Do you know why people buy consoles? There is no unwated hassle when you want to play some game, simple - insert game cd/dvd and play, what do we get on PC? Drivers? Reboots? "Scrached protection area" on the disc?
But agreed , games are cracked too fast.
And btw. new tages is nothing more than old tages + module encryption.
There are 3 ways of implementation.
1) You can choose to encrypt the module(s) with TAGES, decryption is begins after successful CD-Check.
2) You can use SDK, which will be compiled with game code, there are many ways to do nice checks in the game then, ingame CD-Checks, data triggers which required cracker to finish the game (XIII, Asterix & Abelix XXL 1+2, maybe some new ones).
3) Ways 1 and 2 used together, like in most of the recent games. You can unpack the module / remove way number "1" from the module and it will still use tages drivers and ask for the CD in the game.
So like I said, new tages is nothing more but added Encryption code to old one, which allows protection of SDK-unsupported executables like Delphi/VB, but it also gives extra strength to SDK-protected ones.

Wrong, the sells will discrease, using a very hard copyprotection will suffer seels (Ubisoft haven't stopped with SF for nothing remember, just because TOO many people where complaining, and they where seeing it in their profits). |
Who says anything about hard copyprotections? Starforce this, starforce that. He says some games shouldnt be cracked too soon. Let them some time (about month) to sell better then crack, even if the protection is really easy. Of course if you can use clone be happy with it, but many regular users dont know anything about DT, Curerom etc and they will buy the game, and you get your sequel
