1. Microsoft has stated the OS will not contain ANY sort of rootkit/backdoor.. So I guess it doesnt phonehome.. more to the point it would be far to difficult to make it work Razz!

2. I would guess its just as simple as it is in in XP. I've seen plenty of screenshots of Vista without the transparent-ness and memory eating features.

I'm trying to install Windows Vista within a VMWare machine, but I have some problems.

first the entire setup process is only with 16 colors and I cannot understand why.

I'm able to format the virtual HD but then it won't allow me to go further into the setup process.
the next button is just disabled and I have a message on the bottom saying "to detect HD please go to reboot and check your BIOS"

any sugestions where these problems can be solved?

In VMWare, when it goes to format then it restarts the virtual pc, you need to be quick press "Escape" while the vmware bios is showing and select "boot from cd" (as long as you have the iso in the virtual vmware drive).

I had a similar experience to Esel.

I am not happy that Microsoft has dumbed the release down from their initial ambitions; *but*, it is still a nice improvement to Windows XP and should help stimulate the hardware market...

To those complaining of higher specs to run Vista: Bitch all you want that you need to upgrade, but when more people have faster computers, game devs don't have to dumb the games down for your cheap ass rig.

I don't think it's ready to use as your primary OS yet (stability and compatability issues still) but it's well on the way, and I would recommend giving it a try on a seperate partition in Dual Boot. I'll definately be upgrading.

Yes, I am this nerdy Stop by and say hello
