If you have them go to your local PC store, they are all over the place. (at least in this US). Cant walk through the store without tripping over them.
Avi has more 1080s and 2080s than he wants, from people selling them in old PC's or mining racks. And the 580 8G he stopped buying, as the price he can offer isnt worth the tiny profit he can get when someone eventually wants one.

Or Ebay, tons of them on there.

Wasn't saying you should know it. Was answering who it was and what he had to do with PC parts when I randomly mention him, since you asked Very Happy

I ALMOST moved up there to start the store with him in 2007. But kids was young, and didnt risk it to move to a new place with 2 kids gambling on a business working out. I Should have he's raking in the money.

Oh, just noticed, Dayton … OHIO
Yeah, somewhat far off.

And not sure how much profit there is in moms and pops stores these days. Competition from online stores is just too stiff. Hardware repairs are also not what they used to be, so you are basically tech support and maybe hardware installer for the local community. Which has its charms, sure, but not sure how profitable in the long run. People bug laptops these days, which are even less repairable. And I'm going to take a long in the tooth guess that these mom and pop shops are not doing the crazy china repairs seen here:

Yea most his sales are laptops and refurbs. thats his daily driver. And repairs, LOTS of laptop and phone repairs.
But he's near an airbase so location works well for the custom PC builds of people living on base, young and no concept of saving money for when they leave the military.

He loves seeing some 20 something air force brat pull up in an over financed Dodge Demon or Hellcat (Don't know why, military guys in US are attracted to those like flies on shit).
But he sees that, he knows hes making 2-3k on building some overly spec, hard tubed custom water cooled PC sale. He might only sell one a week, but that one sale equals roughly the weeks work of laptop repairs.
He keeps two "RGB everything!" system up front and running. One themed in Military green and black, and one Red White and Blue themed. As he's going over options, he does it at the counter next to those displays. And more times than not they 'decide' (with his help nudging them) to get a full on "ALL THE THINGS!" customized water loop build...lol

Hes not doing too shabby for himself (ALL these are not his, just the first two):
 Spoiler:

Meanwhile, I didnt go start it with him, and driving a 1997 jeep Razz

Sam Altman argues that it's bad you want DRAM in your computer and not a data center, actually

https://www.pcgamer.com/software/ai/sam-altman-argues-that-its-bad-you-want-dram-in-your-computer-and-not-a-data-center-actually/
Quote:
"From a global allocation perspective, actually it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer, and be used 5% of the time."

Quote:
Altman is talking less about PC gamers specifically here, and more about solo AI bros craving compute power and "local inference".

1. I paid for it, if I want to buy it and make festive Christmas tree ornaments out of it. My business.
2. 'limited supply of DRAM' Huh.. I wonder why there is a shortage Sam. It's a mystery I guess.
3. You have NO idea how much of my 64gigs I use daily. I'm sitting at 47gigs used at the moment Mr. Sam.
4. WHY am I at 47gigs used? Because I run models locally for images, music, video, voice, coding, etc. And got 2 loaded. Because I DONT WANT to pay monthly to just rent your RAM.

So I counter with:
From a global allocation perspective, actually it’s quite terrible to have one place have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their servers, for me to only rent it, 5% of my time.

If you have it Sam, I can only use it on your servers, for your AI. If I have it I can use it for my AI, games, video editing, streaming, VM's. Which sounds like a better use to you Sam if its 'limited supply'?
