I think they could really do with hiring a script editor/supervisor. Something a bit similar to the role Chris Avellone had on the Pathfinder games, where he didn't really directly write things but provided an editorial role and helped trim down/amend the script a little bit.

ATOM devs have always had a bit of an exposition dump/kitchen sink approach to writing and it can be quite jarring. I always found Pillars of Eternity suffered from the same issue to some degree, every character wants to lore dump you or over explain some element of the story.

Quote:
Plague Island is a story-driven DLC for the original ATOM RPG that introduces new locations, storylines, characters, and a host of other exciting gameplay features.

The plot takes you from a small airfield near Fogelevka to a new world map: an island where a Gwon-Jo-controlled settlement is grappling with a mysterious disease outbreak.

Explore the eponymous Plague Island, a new world map featuring thriving and abandoned settlements, mysterious pre-war Soviet installations, challenging pirate forts, lairs of horrendous beasts, and more.

Come on you guys... oh well, another one to make room for in the backlog Sad

On a side note, it seems that Atom RPG 2 won't be a cRPG anymore since it has transitioned into an open-world survival game in third/first person. It could still be interesting on paper, though the early videos on the tubewebs look as janky as one would expect. Laughing

Yeah, I disliked those trailers so far Sad
At least Underrail Infusion will keep it close to the original game.
