oh, this is interesting, a report from my ai agent (it only reports any major happenings for DLSS 5 / modding):
"A major modding/research development clears the threshold: OpenDLSS-NR has now exposed the actual DLSS 5 Neural Rendering network as an open Vulkan implementation.
https://github.com/maanHimself/OpenDLSS-NR
This is substantially more important than another injector. The developer has reproduced the 71-block Swin/ViT network used by DLSS-NR 310.8.0, including FP8 execution, and reports bit-exact agreement not merely at the final image but at all 75 intermediate block boundaries. There is also an independent WebGPU implementation that reproduces the same network without Tensor Cores or FP8.
The architecture is now documented in considerable detail: six pooling levels, 141 MiB of weights, FP8 E4M3 activations with FP16 accumulation, temporal history/reprojection, injected Gaussian noise, five conditioning parameters, and an output consisting of an RGB residual plus a temporal-blend value.
Why this matters for the thing we've been waiting for
This potentially changes DLSS 5 modding from "find ways to call NVIDIA's black-box DLL" into "modify the neural renderer itself."
The repository exposes the network graph, GLSL kernels, faster PTX kernels, model loader, tensor layout, temporal path and conditioning system. In principle, researchers can now experiment with altered architectures, different execution strategies and—eventually—modified or independently trained weights.
That last part is especially relevant to your interest in fine-tuning DLSS 5. We are not there yet: the repository explicitly does not generate or train weights, and users must supply compatible weights themselves. The loader currently expects the exact 310.8.0 71-block architecture and rejects models with another block count.
But this is probably the most important prerequisite I've seen so far for somebody eventually building a train/fine-tune pipeline. The model is no longer structurally opaque.
There is also real performance work here rather than just reverse engineering. On an RTX 4070 SUPER, the author measures the complete network at 7.8 ms at 1080p, 12.6 ms at 1440p and 29.3 ms at 4K. The implementation includes fused attention/MLP kernels, asynchronous memory operations and barrier-free chaining."
Going to be wild if we can do our own fine tunes for the model
shit game, but it sucks that it changes eye color for example. someone tried dlss 5 on the dune 2 movie and it looks pretty cool but it ruins anyone who has perhaps white eyes or blue eyes so it cant be used.
but again, its just the start. there is no example where something-AI hasnt been improved x10 or x100 eventually, its just a waiting game.
people being able to decompile entire games and mash them up etc lol. less than a year ago we would not have believed it.
Having Pigs start to fly is also just a waiting game. I stay by my point that this fake instagram filter bullshittery is and will stay crap, it adds absolutly nothing when it imagines things the creator maybe intentionally didnt intent - like you said the example with the eye color.

I stay by my point that if the user wants it, to the creator: Sucks to be you I guess if you care.
While I don't care if people use it or not. If I paid for your game. I can do what I want with it. if I want to play it with all the textures modded to be replaced with flat gray, my choice.
I can buy a car, and mod it away from the designers intended look. No one cares. I can install reshade, and set it to do FakeNoir mode..no one cares if I do that to my personal game.
Add in the nefarious "AI" and people find reasons to accuse it of things, the end user did.
Don't like it? well hell my man. Dont use it. Still don't get where people think they have a right to tell people: Your hobby preferences suck..stop. I don't like it.
Edit: How is this different than a modding community? They add shit ALL THE TIME that is away from the games intended 'vision'. Pick any game with a modding community, they change stuff, add stuff, put in Shrek, or spongebob, or randy savage as a dragon, or Hulk in GTA. You as upset with people having those as personal game options too? it imagines things the creator didnt intend.

Absolutly, i dont wanna tell here anyone on what he can do or what not - so no clue why you question my viewpoint.
Generalazing Mods in that regard doesnt make much sense, there are good and bad ones and i dont mind a good mod even if it interfiers with the creators vision, there usually is someone else with another vision who pours effort into something (some more some less). This here is nothing of it, some algo pushes out some crap that "it" thinks is fitting, not you or the creator as there isnt any one - its just trained gurbled up stuff that the algo deems fitting.
As stated earlier, some Screens look really good when they are still - but when in motion it becomes garbage as it looses details which is especially noticeable when the lightsources are dynamic and change fast or it just straight up hallicunates stuff to chars that are non existent, i rather play with facts as with made-ups...
Ah ok, I thought you meant it more: I don't like it and will comment to restate it is shit incase they didnt know that before I Enlighted them to the fact.
But you are still doing it:
"there are good and bad ones and i don't mind a good mod" Who decides if its good?
And mods you don't like, mean low effort? Dont understand what you mean by that part: even if it even if it interferes with the creators vision, there usually is someone else with another vision who pours effort into something.
Just because its not your vibe, or doesn't fit the game doesnt mean it necessarily is low effort. Like I don't care for the mods for factorio that make it 'easy mode everything'. But it was HUGE effort to make that mod, that fully diverges from the games intended purpose, progress, direction, and goal.
But if I say if you even wanted a mod so extreme that you login hit 'start' and it auto builds everything while you AFK. you do you. Mod isn't 'bad' jsut not what I like.
I guess I connect what you are saying to the same vibe as people in tabletop that dislike changing of the rules, or races, or lore going "You can I wont stop you, but its a bad rule change. Good rule changes make sense, this doesnt".
If they are having fun, they are playing it right. There is no 'wrong' way to play. Just groups I myself would not enjoy playing with.

these are mods, they can't control this. if you are a dev with DLSS 5 you have full control of it, you could likely remove it from changing e.g faces or whatever you think should stay free from it. and yes, mods are not how devs intended something because they did not do the mod.
it's hardly crap, its way more impressive than PT or RT and it will just continue to develop and get better.
I think img-img might be the most interesting thing to have happened to graphics / images, it would absolutely be in my top 2 or 3. Immense impact on how images can be altered in interesting ways. Actual filters? lol, they have nothing on it.
There are cool things you can do with filters though, i develop filters withs filterforge, its awesome, but its not exactly img-img either. you can do crazy things with filters, immensely realistic textures for example. but yeah, we are moving away from that more and more and use AI now.

Dont play stupid or play me as the one. Low effort means something that is utterly useless and serves no purpose and is done in no time - My Anno Mod collection has something like that which replaces a Tank Engine with Thomas the little Trainmengine (A gimmick) - all it does is replace a tiny little model you barely see anyways. Its not made by me, was a contribution - i dont fucking like it, yet its still a part of my available Mod collection.
I can dislike something, have a reason for it and just accept stuff like thios dlss garbage, Just because you have issues to differ doesnt mean others have - i can distinguish what my preference is and what not, so stop twisting my words.
I have more and more feeling that you just cant digest that there are people out there who dont like the stuff like you do and that is a no no.

Maybe, maybe not - so far all ive seen i dont like as stills aint pracxtical when it comes to gaming, as much as some may look good they diostort and fake stuff. Looks good, no questions asked but thats it - a good looking still/reimaginaning.
@DaLexy
In the end all low effort mods are low effort mods, made by someone, just with different tools.
I don't see the difference to me.
I guess my point is, you will reply "I don't like it, makes visuals worse". Fair enough totally valid.
But it seems you like to come in every few videos and go "Just to remind everyone, I still do not enjoy this mod"...well yea, we knew that.
So why with this specific modding tool out of 1000's is that the case?
And for the argument original vision. That is moot. I buy a copy of the mona Lisa, I want to draw a mustache on it. I can. I paid for it, its mine.
You buy a copy of a da Vinci and want it untouched? You do you. I want mine with a handlebar mustache. I paid for the copy. Mustache it will have. No amount of you going "That ruins the art style" means your gripe it does, changes I own my own copy of it.
So I don't get that argument you keep putting out its "I wouldnt ruin the intent" Well good on ya, don't for yours?

So what, you complain that every so often with new examples i express myself that nothing has changed and my standpoint hasnt changed either... in a forum...
We aint talking mods here, that was just added example to invalidate your assumption. And yet again you start twisting my words, no one gives a flying what you do or what i do with my game - we agree on that since day one - i have an issue with an algo that thinks what its best, not a person or anything with a conciousness, not hard to understand. If you dont like my statement, why not just ignore it.
I hate headshots useless videoposting en mass, guess what - i ignore it and move on, ffs you validate what i wrote earlier, you just cant stand that someone else has a different taste.
I dont care if someone has different tastes. No idea where you get that. Ive said the opposite many times in many game threads.
And it is a mod, you literally, objectively, have to mod it in, via reshade or otherer wrapper. Sure one day it will be built into games, and at that point wont look like these videos you are critiquing. But your are unequally talking about a mod version of it in the examples.
But if that is the only way you can fathom my reasoning, thats on you. not me.
You have the right to be wrong, I wont deny you that right.

looks amazing, but why is everyone doing the second part? it's ASS. i have not seen a single one for the first game. there's like 100 already for TLOU2, do people really think its the better game? lol, its garbage and its not like it looks better, the first one got an upgrade with the new engine.
