You sir, are to young for this forum.
Transport tycoon style graphics are peak and timeless. I fondly remember putting my nose to my 17 inch 4:3 CRT screen powered by a beefy pentium 100mhz just looking at those trains in transport tycoon drooling and thinking holy fuck, it actually looks like a train. Laughing

I did play Rollercoaster Tycoon and The Sims in 1999 and found them amazing at the time. But 27 years later am too used to better graphics. It's like playing games on 160 Hz 1080p 24" monitor for 10+ years and then try to play on old 1024p 14" monitor. It's too terrible to look at.

Transport tycoon style graphics are nostalgic to particular types of people from a specific range of years of gaming

FTFY

Because for example I was of that 'member the golden years' age group for those days of iso games. And tycoon/logistics/open world build shit has always been my bag.
And thought they was 'meh' then, and 'bleh' now.

Looks good, and makes you nostalgically feel good, are not the same thing.
IE: if they never existed to make you feel ways, and they made this now...no one would be going "hell yea! look at that art style". Its the 'vinyl sounds better' of gaming: I grew up with a personal attachment to it, so it's sound is great.

I think this game is just looking a lot worse then it's predecessors like RCT and transport tycoon. The enviroments are not that well thought. The characters are ugly. It's all designed like a meme.
But that's not the problem with the artstyle but with the guys designing this.

But when done right there is nothing wrong with these kind of 2d graphics. Like in this game

It's a caricature game, probably not too much emphasis on how pretty the characters should look
